Domaine des Chezeaux Clos St. Denis Vieilles Vignes

Terrific nose. Soft red fruits, clean and pure fruit but has some nice cool damp earth underneath it. Palate was great as well; soft, integrated, surprisingly ripe and round. Quite impressed with this. Ponsot is obviously super controversial, but this was both a showy and highly pleasurable bottle. 93-94.

Deep, concentrated and Rhône-like with purple fruits, violets, and beef-blood, it is stylistically rich and extracted....but not over-ripe. Maybe Not for those seeking transparency, but it delivers Ponsot’s m.o. and you can add 1-2 points if you’re seeking that. Still quite youthful, I suspect it will last another 20 years easily.
