Lovely, balanced, black-fruited, cabernet franc dominated blend. I was surprised how much it was outshone by the 1999 Brane Cantenac we had with it. I need to follow my previous note's advice and let this mature and see what happens. Wait 3-5 years before opening another.

Drinking beautifully right now. The color is red, browning slightly with some tertiary color appearing. The nose fragrantly pops out the glass with a beam of fresh red fruit, raspberry, strawberry but not tart. This has become one of my favorite South African Bordeaux Blends. In past vintages, because it's almost always accessible and it's a good value relative to California, I've drunk them early. But given this wine's track record for aging, I'm going to try to let them age 3-5 more years before trying my next.

Intense and intriguing showing forrest floor, blackberry and tobacco. After opening, a strong smell of cat pee emerged; which wasn’t promising. Robust nose with iron, leafy red currant, and red berries. Palate is big and tannic with wet gravel, iron, strawberry compote, ripe cherry, balsamic vinegar. Ruby red in appearance. A bit tight to start with perfumed herbs, cherries, peppers and roses. Medium tannins (6.5/10) and medium plus to full bodied. Was expecting some darker nuances and spices. A bit herbal, bright red berries and gravel. Long and dry finish. Drink till 2026.

Intense and powerful. Brooding for a while. Initially very Cab Franc dominated - green pepper and earthy tones. An hour later I got a lot of cranberry and red fruit and increasing eucalyptus. I let it breathe for hours and never felt like I quite bottomed out its evolution. Complex, powerful, lingering. Initially there was some heat on it but that too integrated very quickly. Very fine tannins. Something quite different.

This is interesting...I opened this last night and it was nasty. Lots of SA nose whatever that is but if you’ve ever drank SA red it’s that iodide/iron whatever thing and then there’s the whole deal on the palate which is another story. Deep garnet to the rim. A tertiary bouquet with undergrowth, autumn leaves, spice, wood smoke and singed charcoal. The wine reflects this on entry with a more evolved character and cola tonic mixing with very ripe fruits - like blackcurrants on a latex glove. Really nice wine. One of the better and more balanced South African wines I've had in a while. A bit on the pricey side, but worth it. Nose of thorny black fruits, green olive, clove. Double blind Cab based wine tasting (Eddie V's - Tysons Corner, VA) : Similar profile as the wine 9. Medium expressive nose displaying ripe black fruit, blackberry, black cherry, licorice, ash, a hint of green, strong spearmint and limestone. Very good concentration, nicely layered ripe black fruit, silky and polished, medium acidity and mineral and a medium to long black fruit driven finish.

ABV 14.5%. 40% Cabernet Franc, 32% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, 11% Petit Verdot & 4% Malbec. Despite the higher % of Cabernet Franc, nose and palate are dominated by Carbernet Sauvignon at the moment, faint flower notes with woods hanging around. Big wine, plenty of tannins, dry mid-palate. Finish with a touch of heat reflecting the alcohol level. Long lingering finish. No over-extraction though.

Dense purple colour. Lots of intense fruit balanced with acid, and a light taste of cedar. For my palate, needs a little time to calm down and integrate. Super wine.

Popped and poured - a mistake, as the wine was pretty tight at first with an earthy background. After some time in the glass the fruit started to emerge - plums and blackberries, perhaps. Flowers somewhere back there too. I've left the rest of the bottle for tomorrow.
