Day three was best. The green bell pepper notes mellowed and the tannic bite was gone. 92 at PNP 94 on day three Hold or decant

Lots of pyrazine green notes on the nose, increasingly as the wine aired, along with some tomato leaf, cigar ash and tea. Balanced and fresh, with balanced black fruit and leather. A touch lacking in concentration, but quite impressive.

I brought this bottle to my wine group dinner last night, and it was wonderfully delicious, We use a double-blind format and the wines can be from anywhere in the world. I sent my wine around the table for the first of two meat courses. After a bit of discussion, everyone guessed that it likely was a young Bordeaux - most said Right Bank, a few said Left). In a way, they were right; this is a red Bordeaux blend …

Lovely, balanced, black-fruited, cabernet franc dominated blend. I was surprised how much it was outshone by the 1999 Brane Cantenac we had with it. I need to follow my previous note's advice and let this mature and see what happens. Wait 3-5 years before opening another.

Medium intensity nose of dried blackberry, pencil/graphite, and some cedar. Some black cheery added to those flavours when on the palate. Long finish. Balanced.

Drinking beautifully right now. The color is red, browning slightly with some tertiary color appearing. The nose fragrantly pops out the glass with a beam of fresh red fruit, raspberry, strawberry but not tart. Perfect balance of acid and tannin treatment, limited wood notes but a strong sense of fresh peat coming through. Finish is med-long

This has become one of my favorite South African Bordeaux Blends. In past vintages, because it's almost always accessible and it's a good value relative to California, I've drunk them early. But given this wine's track record for aging, I'm going to try to let them age 3-5 more years before trying my next.

Intense and intriguing showing forrest floor, blackberry and tobacco. After opening, a strong smell of cat pee emerged; which wasn’t promising. However, that smell disappeared after a couple hours to leave the way to an aromatic and well made wine. Full bodied, medium acidity and well integrated tannins. NI:3, FI:22, FC:8, B:4, L:4

10% CABERNET FRANC, 32% CABERNET SAUVIGNON, 13% MERLOT. 11% PETIT VERDOT & 4% MALBEC. Dark and medium transparent. Decanted 3 hours before dinner. Robust nose with iron, leafy red currant, and red berries. Palate is big and tannic with wet gravel, iron, strawberry compote, ripe cherry, balsamic vinegar. Finish is medium with some heat (unclear if its alcohol, pyrazine flavor or both). Overall good but not great. Very surprising this is 8 years old. Can easily go 10 more years. …

Ruby red in appearance. A bit tight to start with perfumed herbs, cherries, peppers and roses. Medium tannins (6.5/10) and medium plus to full bodied. Was expecting some darker nuances and spices. A bit herbal, bright red berries and gravel. Long and dry finish. Drink till 2026.

Intense and powerful. Brooding for a while. Initially very Cab Franc dominated - green pepper and earthy tones. An hour later I got a lot of cranberry and red fruit and increasing eucalyptus. I let it breathe for hours and never felt like I quite bottomed out its evolution. Complex, powerful, lingering. Initially there was some heat on it but that too integrated very quickly. Very fine tannins. Something quite different.

This is interesting...I opened this last night and it was nasty. Lots of SA nose whatever that is but if you’ve ever drank SA red it’s that iodide/iron whatever thing and then there’s the whole deal on the palate which is another story. Still, there was fruit.. so, after half a glass of this stuff I put the cork in it. Flash forward to now and it’s great! That whole South Africa terroir deal has integrated very nicely with the …

Deep garnet to the rim. A tertiary bouquet with undergrowth, autumn leaves, spice, wood smoke and singed charcoal. The wine reflects this on entry with a more evolved character and cola tonic mixing with very ripe fruits - like blackcurrants on a latex glove. Full-bodied, powerful but fruit tiring, more towards raisin and bitumen. The tannins, however, are fully resolved, giving a cocoa powder impression, the acid is vibrant and there is a touch of herb/mint on the aftertaste. A …

Really nice wine. One of the better and more balanced South African wines I've had in a while. A bit on the pricey side, but worth it. Nose of thorny black fruits, green olive, clove. The entry was rather full bodied, similar to the nose, also having a nutmeg and gingerbread note. These wines all have both a uniqueness to them yet quite a few similarities. They can resemble Texas and Virginia AVA wines (and sometimes Finger Lakes reds). But, …

Double blind Cab based wine tasting (Eddie V's - Tysons Corner, VA) : Similar profile as the wine 9. Medium expressive nose displaying ripe black fruit, blackberry, black cherry, licorice, ash, a hint of green, strong spearmint and limestone. Very good concentration, nicely layered ripe black fruit, silky and polished, medium acidity and mineral and a medium to long black fruit driven finish.

ABV 14.5%. 40% Cabernet Franc, 32% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, 11% Petit Verdot & 4% Malbec. Despite the higher % of Cabernet Franc, nose and palate are dominated by Carbernet Sauvignon at the moment, faint flower notes with woods hanging around. Big wine, plenty of tannins, dry mid-palate. Finish with a touch of heat reflecting the alcohol level. Long lingering finish. No over-extraction though.

Last red wine at our tasting at Raats Family Wines with Marika. Purplish ruby red in appearance. Layered yet feminine nose with roses, boysenberry, herbs, green peppers, more floral and dark red berries. Heavy tannins (8.5/10) and full bodied. Dark and rich on the palate with dark spices, dark cherries, minerality, dusty, earthiness and some raspberries. Very long and dry finish. Drink from 2018 till 2030. Terroir-istes Local - Bordeaux Inspired (Vredehoek) : (Tasted Blind): Mid black-red colour, the bouquet shows intense chocolate, ripe blackcurrant to cassis, cedarwood and a touch of dark plum. Plenty going on, and the entry has excellent depth, concentration and a floral tribute showing more youthful than previous wines. Very much an even-keeled wine, delivering sweet fruit, a powdery texture and firm but fine-grained tannins. It manages power without heft. A long finish. with layers of complexity, this is showing very …

Served blind. Excellent nose, with a fine and clean Cabernet Franc profile. Dusty herbs, dry grass, dust and stones, dry pencil lead, fine red ripe berries, some herbs and tobacco with a chocolate touch. Palate shows a semi mature rather clean wine, with drying fruit, ripe red currants, plums, stones, cedar, earth, quite silky, with good length and balance. No disturbing alcohol or burnt tones in this Very Bordeaux like, and a likeable and dine new world wine, dressed as …

Popped and poured - a mistake, as the wine was pretty tight at first with an earthy background. After some time in the glass the fruit started to emerge - plums and blackberries, perhaps. Flowers somewhere back there too. I've left the rest of the bottle for tomorrow.
