Good call on it being “a safe choice”; needs to open up for about an hour though. Nose is earthy and woodsy but in a non-descript way. Palate is all black fruits and bramble but kind of clumsy and fat. There is acidity and and tannins that only come into balance once it has a chance to breathe. Decent, maybe not ground breaking.

{Winery visit} Maybe I'm too wine-geeky. I mean this is a perfectly good Dolcetto (in a tough year no less), with decent varietal character and decent freshness, but, having had many from Dogliani/Farigliano lately, I just couldn't get jazzed about this offering. If you see it on a restaurant list, it's a very safe purchase, but I think I'll stick to the Dolcetto just a bit south of Langhe. I like it, I just don't see myself buying any. https://www.ItalianWine.blog
