Balanced fruit, mild oak, and complexity.

One of the greatest things for me about going to Costco is trying to guess what item I'm going home with that I didn't expect. I usually go for staples, food items, some meat, maybe some canned goods, etc., but, invariably, something ends up in my basket that I didn't know I would buy. Needed a quick bottle, it was on top, and made the same impression as the last bottle - just wine.

Good value, well balanced, and nice to drink - but nothing stands out in any way, it's mostly 'just wine'.

The nose is unbalanced. There are some nice aroma in there but muted and the alcohol comes on too strongly. Much better on the palate. Smooth, balanced, great interplay between fruit and acidity. No heat whatsoever. Medium finish. Medium body and semi-chewy. If it has a better nose, I can easily bump this to 89, or even 90.

A simple guzzler with nothing wrong, but nothing exceptional. Maybe not the best with food, due to the high fruit and low acidity components, but great for a party.

Solid QPR. Probably the first Cameron Hughes wine that I'd say is ready for drinking now. Not much structure here and no need for it to evolve. But it is easy drinking and enjoyable. Nutmeg on the nose. Not much varietal characteristic here. Has that ubiquitous inexpensive wine kind of feeling, but well done in this style as it's very user friendly.

A very easy drinking, reasonably balanced wine. On the simple side but tasty. Well-priced and a good candidate for entertaining.

Right on the money. Easy to drink and balanced. Perfumed nose that eventually shows some cassis and tobacco. Palate is pleasing with a smooth transition to the finish. Low tannins and decent enough acidity. A bit simple overall, but a good QPR. Doesn't need much decanting and seems like a drink now sort of wine.

This is a nice wine for $9. Fresh and smooth tannins. Well worth the the price.

Purchased at Costco. Color is translucent purple with a clear rim. Very jammy smell, with strawberries and red fruit dominating. Almost candy/gum like in smell. A bit artificial. This is a pleasant red table wine that won't offend the palate, but doesn't provide fireworks either and is a bit hallow on the backend delivery. Although CH suggests the wine will improve with age, I don't see how this wine doesn't peak before 2010. That said, for $7.99 can't really complain. …

This is definitely one of Cameron Hughes' best negociant offerings...not expecting much from this $9 Chilean, we were overwhelmed by a aromas of blackberry and black cherry, and an explosion on the palate of blackberry pie, casis and blueberry notes, all well-balanced for mid-palate, and lingering on a medium-long finish. Enjoy this wine now and over the next couple of years. Crowd-pleaser.
