Opened at Caprice in HK. Slow-oxed for a while before serving. Well... the undisputed WOTN. Selosse vintage is just a step-up from pretty much anything else, and this was an epic balance of the house's oxidative style balanced by freshness and a beautiful fine mousse. So much complexity and had a finish that just kept on going on for ages. What a treat, what a wine. Thanks to M for sharing, and can't wait to return the favour!

Drinking beautifully, still fresh bubbles, some oxidation as expected from this producer, let sit for an hour and tasted even richer. Beautiful wine disgorged Feb 23 2017

An intriguing nose of vanilla spice, honey, toast and apple. It is rich, with a fruit sweet, vinous heart. There’s a suggestion of mandarin fruit and plenty of chalk. Layered, voluminous and seriously long.

Bottle acquired directly from the estate and which has only known my cool cellar since. Very intense nose of curry and spices. Strong oxidative side. The mouth is enormously deep. The wine is rich, the curry invades the mouth, coated in a minty sensation then a whole catalog of exotic spices are revealed in layers with cardamom, cloves, ginger, saffron... It's impressive, I have never had a champagne with such a particular style, so assertive and so successful. The typical …

"Made by Anselme, who has the second best hair in Champagne" (Chicago, IL) : I dunno man, this bottle was pretty oxidative and heavy-handed. Next to the 2003, this felt like the one that was over-the-top and weighty. Quite fat on the palate and missing any modicum of freshness, though the sheer amount of concentration and complexity here is monumental. But this is missing the cut and lift that I need in Champagne. Slightly oily and very heavily oxidative in …

I found this bottle to be a little too Selosse-y. Extremely rich and oxidative, with bright acidity, this is clearly good champagne but its style is just too far down that road for my taste. Almost like drinking Sherry with bubbles.

blind Great to drink now, maybe a hint too evolved. I guessed the vintage right but surprisingly not the producer. CdM 2002 is much younger but not that complex. 96

A bit of a disapointment considering current market price and previous experiences of this unicorn wine. On this occasion the wine was a bit too oxydative, and although some can enjoy the style I thought it was over the top, with the oxydation overshadowing the aromatic structure . Not sure whether it comes from the wine or from this particular bottle, but this was miles away from my last 02 Selosse. Will I let my other bottles age or will I …

KYD #2.2 (Valby Brasserie) : Packed with read apple fruit and apple-core bitterness showing a lot of oxidation but also an amazing intensity. Huge acidity and flavor depth! Just an amazing wine!

Selosse is well known for its oxidative style but this one is just too, too much. Lively foam implies it was well stored and sound. The deep gold color is concerning but not necessarily dismissive. But the smell and taste of bruised apple, cognac and whisky barrel is overwhelming and requires some courage to soldier on. Surprisingly though, as it breathed for a few hours the wine freshened up and came into better balance.

Selosse Millesime Vertical 1995-2009 : Extremely well-balanced and elegant. The most delicate one of all 7 tonight. The Inviting acidity here is always welcoming. Airy and pure. Brilliant!

Decanted and served at a 2002 dinner blind. Rich toasty oxidative notes and generally in balance - easily identifiable as Selosse. Unclear how much better this will get with age. *****

This bottle was disgorged in 12/2002. Pours a medium golden color. Aromatically open, clearly a Blanc de Blancs with features of age. Green and golden apple with some almond toast, and for a brut (the presice dosage is not listed) felt to me like a lot of Maillard level development has occurred in bottle. Great intensity on tbe palate and a lovely mousse. Yes, this wine falls to the oxidative end of the spectrum, but a better description for me …

Natural wines - Special Edition (Barabba) : Absolutely stunning. It needs a bit of time to open up but when it does, there is so much depth, complexity and a piercing acidity. The oxidation is very pronounced but still there is good balance between fruit, complexity and acidity. Very beautiful wine and in a good place. Still, this could continue to evolve in a good way. Very impressive!

2002 Selosse is a true masterpiece, and this bottle, while very slightly below the last one I tasted, is no exception. It is rich, dense, creamy, very long, has a great acidity. A complexity that one rarely meet in Champagne, even with the greatest cuvee. Only some cuvees from Krug, Henri Giraud or Egly-Ouriet can give me that much pleasure. Decanted for an hour, but I thought afterward a little more time in the decanter would not have been a …

blind This time a bit too much evolved, especially if you compare it CdM side by side. Pinenuts, honey, dried fruits, still amazing acidity but could be fresher. Bought the bottle at the winery around 2012. 95 today. I had it a few times in same eye level.

This exceptional Jacques Selosse Champagne presents with a deep, golden hue, hinting at its oxidative elements. On the nose, it offers a powerful and complex array of aromas On the palate, the Champagne reveals a superstructure that is both rich and vibrant. The oxidative qualities are balanced perfectly with a vibrant acidity, creating a seamless and intense tasting experience.

Selosse Tasting (JH) : Extremely complex wine yielding mushrooms, coffee and white flowers. Very juicy fruit of yellow apples and plums. Stunning depth and complexity with a piercing acidity. A wine in a very good balance while still showing an amazing complexity. What a treat to taste this wine! Simply amazing!

Jacques Selosse - semi blind horisontal and vertical tasting (14 wines) (Nordsjaelland) : BdB. Tasted 1999 (disg. 1/2009) against 2002 (disg. 2/2012) and 2003 (disg. 10/13) and 2005 (disg. 11/2016). All wines are deep gold - no huge difference in appearance but that changes when it comes to aromas and flavours. 2005 is more developed than 2003, Aromas of brioche, toast, butter and it is pretty oxidative with sherry-like notes (92 points). 2003 is not oxidative at all - unexpected …
