Blackberry, black cherry fruit that is slightly perfumed but paradoxically also bold at the same time. Notes of violet, cassis, lavender and licorice. But it doesn’t stop there, on the long finish, additional notes of dark chocolate and mocha with a hint of spice. Super smooth tannins after an hour decant…this wine has at least another decade to get even better.

2 hour decant. Very early in its drinking window. Firm tannins but not overpowering. Very enjoyable but doesn’t have the depth of layers of some of the other appellations in Napa. Nice wine but very challenging QPR.

This is good. What I pickup in the few more recent Farellas is this real lick of freshness on the finish Quite a cool and fresh nose though has plenty of depth. Almost a sight grainy mineral edge on the decent finish Some uplift and spice / energy on finish Coravined half a bottle and drank straight away over an hour

Really nice wine with great structure and minerality, velvety and smooth. Has a great damp autumn leaves note with wet soft hardwood. Mix of red and blue fruit, with some crunchy currants and freshness.

So we sipped this between 1 hour and 5 hour decant. It certainly got better but never reached the heights I unfortunately expected it should have. Maybe that’s my fault for lofty expectations (life lesson). Aromas were pretty. Baked red and black fruits, pine needles, earth, tilled soil, mint, minerals and crunchy tannins. Similar palate with tannins getting softer. But palate never matched to the aromas. My assessment of this as of now is that I’d take the Herold Coombsville …

Coravined this on a whim and drank with less than 30 min of air, unlike me but glad I did. This was perfect young Napa cab. Velvety mouthfeel, plush fruit, just delicious. Drank a glass or two over about 90 min. Day 2 decided to open it and left it slow oxing longer than intended. Given its youth I didn’t think it would matter, but it was much better without so much air. It had lost some of its freshness …

Wow. Drinking great now. Great depth and concentration. Lasts forever. Best Farella ever.

I'd recommend a 90 min decant. It absolutely opens up after that. Beautiful full flavored Cabernet. Plenty of energy to age.

Brought to Asador Bastian Chicago for dinner tonite. Decanted roughly 2:5 hours before enjoying. Although it finally came around, it definitely needed more air or several more years in bottle. I will wait 3-5 years before my next bottle.

First of my group. Had not had a Bourn. Decided to try it. Four hour decant and then back to the bottle for the trip to restaurant. A total of 5.5 hours between open and first glass. Great nose with black fruit (cassis, blackberry, boysenberry?), very smooth texture and nice balance. A little herbaceous but not in a bad way - more earthy and fresh. Surprised us with more balance and less forward alcohol than expected from 2018 Napa. Excellent …

Coravin a glass and let sit for a half hour before it was served with Australian Waygu Strips. Was not as good tonight as I remembered from last year, possibly it wasn’t decanted long enough or possibly it is going through a phase and needs to be revisited in a year or two.

Beautiful bottle. Floral hints, deep red color with dark licorice and chocolate. Tannins settled over 30 minutes and by second glass wine was settled. 45 second finish.

This is going to be a great wine- in several years. Scott B from Realm had told me a couple weeks ago to forget about this bottling for at least 3+ years, but when I opened my wine fridge and saw this staring back at me, I couldnt resist. Decanted starting around 2:30pm, then off to the beach to beat the 90+ heat here in San Diego. First sips around 6pm, followed over next 2.5 hours or so. Last sips …

Decanted 6 hours. Very fruit forward, bit smoky, vegetable garden. Changes in the glass every 5 minutes. Nice complexity and long finish, yet very enjoyable as a fruity drink. Goes great with French food.

Decanted 5 hours. Fruity and complex with long finish. Tastes like it’s from a Beckstoffer vineyard. Great with most foods.

Decanted over the course of 4 hours. The complexity and high quality of fruit definitely shows, but the wine was completely closed off. The full taste and aromas were nowhere to be found. Seems as if this wine has gone to sleep, so I would wait a few years before opening this or proceed with Caution.

Year in and year out, this is my 2nd favorite wine from "The House of Realm," the top being their fabulous Dr. Crane. More on that later next month. It is also always one of my top 5 wines of the year. I am happy to report that the 2018 version is everything and more than I expected it to be. Dark colors of Purple, red and black with fruit that includes blackberry, cherry, and plum. Strong smells, strong tannins, …
