Ratzenberger Steeger St. Jost Riesling Auslese

A little disappointing - I was expecting something great. In a 500mL bottle. Started off fairly muted but opened up over time. This is a 20 year wine which might bet better still. Just not much nuance for me, just a straight Riesling taste which felt more like a well made Spatlese. In honesty my score might have been higher, if my expectation hadn't been so high.

What a treat, nose of honeysuckle, mead, and flowers. On the palate, balanced pears, apples, citrus, and balanced sweetness. Excellent. Enjoyed with Michael in front of a roaring new year's bonfire.

Purchased at the winery. On the nose, green fruit and slate, on the palate, vibrant green fruit, more minerals, and lively acidity. Well balanced when paired with foie gras before dinner. Overall this is a soft and understated wine, no point to hold any longer. 91/92

0.5 liter bottle. Medium yellow gold. Citrus, grapefruit, peach, pineapple, honey, ethereal notes, petrol, and first signs of bottle age, with good acidity and good length. Balanced, and light on Its feet, in particular in the context of the vintage. Best on day one, a little tired from day three. Drink now. 90(-)
