crisp with a touch of honey. the touch of surgar on the palate went well wtih the spicy apps we were having. very different kind of pinot gris.

Tasting this wine blind, I initially smelled roasted hazelnuts, lemon cream, and butter scotch candies. The mouth had a lovely touch of acid followed by sugar and a creamy, flavorful finish. The sugar was too sweet for my preference. The smoke of the toasted hazelnuts was either due to a too high toast barrel or the smoky 2008 vintage in Anderson Valley. Overall, that was not a detractor from this wonderful, full bodied Pinot gris.

nose - when first opened green pepper, but after a week or so in fridge i get more of a custard nose mouth - this is an attractive dry white with some complexity that has grown on me over the week, and pairs quite well with cheese (or other food as well). mid to full bodied, pit fruit flavor with a peppery midpalate and an off dry finish (reminding me of caramel). Honeyed nose showing exotic lemon grassand kafir lime with a top note of wet stones. Sweet, dense flavors of honey, melon, lemon grass and wet stones. Moderate acidity is insufficient to balance out the obvious RS in the wine, which becomes slightly cloying after a few sips. Drink now. 84 pts.

Very dense pinot gris. Flavors of lemongrass, iced tea, and crushed rocks. This is a very serious pinot gris that should be paired with fish, pasta, and white meat. Strongly recommend this wine.

14.8% ABV. Medium gold in the glass. Something like canned fruit cocktail on the nose initially - that's not necessarily a pejorative. Somwehat oily with rich apple fruit/apple cider flavors. Just a hair sweet. Rather Alsatian stylistically. Good.

A Week in Mendocino; 10/6/2009-10/11/2009 : yellow color with apricots, orange blossoms and pear aromas. i like the creaminess of this wine. its very clean, with just a hint of residual sugar, but the acidity is there to balance it out. lovely lemon, honey and white pepper flavors on the finish.

So the nose is huge with flowers and stone fruit coming forth, and citrus on the end. The wine feels heavy in your mouth and again big fruit is what comes forth along with nice minerality. I enjoyed this wine, it was very CA in style, but really lacked the balance and acidity that I associate with the Pinot Gris I enjoy from Alto Adige. So, I liked it, just not my favorite. Gorgeous pinot gris, bouquet has stone fruit lightly drizzled with honey. This wine is a big wine accompanied by a 14+ alcohol content. Goes down a little hot for me, but the mouth feel is really nice. On the second day the wine was still complex offering up pineapple and peach nectar with faint baking spice. I think this wine could easily go another 3-5 years.

Sonoma-Napa Trip Day 1; 6/25/2009-6/26/2009 (Sonoma) : Pale appearance. Chalk on the reticent nose. Touch of honey and smoke. "Sweet" peach, pear, lemon fruit. Medium bodied with good concentration. Somewhat Alsatian in profile to me. Pretty nice. $19. 14.8% ABV.
