I detect crushed cherry aromas with notes of vanilla and cedar. The wine has a bright purplish color and no signs of aging. It has a silky mouthfeel and subtle notes of plums and mild cherries. The finish is long and pleasant, with a nice fruitiness. This wine is truly elegant and pure, and it’s still extremely enjoyable at this age.

Entering prime time. Starting to show syrah funk, likely has 5-10 delicious years ahead of it. Still slightly primary.

Impeccably made, could show a little more syrah funk for my palate, but that's a pretty minor quibble.

2 hr decant; dark red color; nose is restrained, mostly blueberry/black berry notes; soft tannins, black plum, black berry flavors, long finish;concentrated fresh fruit style marks this as classic new world Syrah

Smoke, ash earthy and herbal. But smooth and balanced. Has a bit of that funkiness characteristic of the Washington Syrah’s from Christophe Barron (eg Horsepower) but not nearly as pronounced, more understated. I’ve had other Colgin Syrahs that were younger vintages (14-15) and this is the first time I’ve tasted the “funk”. Not a bad thing at all was just surprised given other vintages. Perhaps shows up with age. But most salient is that all those flavors come in a …

Smoky, with meat and creosote, blackberry fruit with some blue notes as well. Oak still somewhat thick. A massive and interesting wine, reminds me of Chave in a hot year. Good plus.

We only gave this an hour decant and the score would be even higher had we given it all the time it needed to open up. Still a very powerful wine at 10 years in.

Return to Napa; 3/6/2022-3/13/2022 (Wineries and various restaurants) : So it turns out that I am a Syrah person. In a week where we've been drinking a lot of cabernet my first taste of the syrah was a 'oh - yes - I really like this'. There's fruit and a hint of game and a certain juiciness. Needs a lot more time, but it is quite enjoyable.

Big, bold, tons of blackberry and blueberry and some meatiness; a good dose of fine expensive oak in there, really nice with the A5 wagyu with onion and a sweet soy sauce sauce; silky, big, bold, and eventually pretty oaky. Turned more oaky as the night went on. I imagine if they halved the oak on these monsters they would have something pretty special. Asanebo w/Yarom and gang.

A Colgin Syrah is always icing on the cake...and an 06 at that! Herb dense aged purple and black fruits. Boysenberry and dirty blackberries. Black olive and truffles. Very round mouthfeel throughout. This one will not appreciate much more in bottle, so if you're sitting on a stack of these, drink all you can and ship the rest of them to me!

A 4 hr decant and this was singing beautifully — lots of ripe red fruit, some underlying ripe black fruit, with loads of minerality, acidity, and complexity for a wonderful 45 second finish. Paired beautifully with filets, and we have one bottle left to try. At its peak I think.

Slow ox for two hours. The slow ox time really helped opening this up compared to the last time I drank this. This is full bodied with a very long finish but shows beautifully pure, balanced cherry and plum fruit with a touch of smoked meat and spice. This is quite new world in style buts it’s delicious, deep and complex.

Nice depth of very slightly faded fruit with classic Syrah character of black velvety density with a touch of leather, tar, & smoke. Good balance if not a touch of heat. Don’t see this improving from here so suggest drinking these up over the next few years.

Cork snapped in half but eventually came out without crumbling. Decanted for 2 hours. Drank with nibbles around a raclette. The wine's flavors became more complex over the course of 2 hours. Full-bodied, deeply flavored blackberry, early on a scent of damp, south French spices. The alcohol was undetectable though 15.8% ABV. Glad I have 2 more bottles.

Decanted 3 hrs, amazing bouquet on opening that only got better, tons of dark fruits and roasted meats flavors, with hints of floral and flint, great acidity, great complexity and a nice long finish. Stored at 55 F definitely has given this a long life. One bottle left...tock tock, can’t wait.

This is not for everyone. This is a full throttle Parker style wine with 15.9 abv Huge nose of black fruit, flowers and smoked meats. The wine is massively concentrated with flavors of black fruits and more black fruits, herbs and spice and a long long finish. At the same time, the wine feels a little bit jammy and there is noticeable oak. Will this get better with time? Today it comes off overdone.

Utterly fabulous wine. Triple decanted (twice never seems enough) and then left there for an hour (I would give it a couple of hours if you have planned ahead). Deep, dark and rich, and yet instantly accessible. Once swallowed, it still lingers on your mouth for what seems like minutes. This will still get better, but why be shy if you have some in the cellar - try it soon and keep the rest to savour later.

1 hour decant, it came out very well rounded. Started with some tomato juice. Then into fruit. Blackberry, black cherry, great soft nose. Hints of ripe strawberries and blueberries, with hints of cacao and coffee on back end. Very nice California Syrah. Alcohol is in a good place as well. Great wine.

Splash decanted, but probably needed an hour or so. Tight of the get go, but opened up and tannins started to get softer. Sugar plums, a bit of sourness, prune juice, raspberry, very fruit driven from what I could tell. Hint of smoked meat, some BBQ sauce, but lots of sour fruit. Lots of acid still lots of time IMO. Next one I will let it open up in decanter for a bit. Nice wine, but not a magnificent Syrah …

Inky black dark dark. Fresh pure lively aromas of charred meat and olive. Magical palate of tremendous depth. Sleek black and blue fruit earth and amazingly a sense of place. Crispy bacon. With such density it continues to be lithe and poised coming across as a light wine. Multi minute echo of a finish. Spellbinding.

Bright, structured Cali Syrah that drinks more like a cocktail than wine. Pure cassis and licorice. It evolved over a couple hours and softened a bit but I'd recommend pop and pour if you want the full effect.
