Just about drinkable. Fruit is OK but old. This wine is way past it's best. Better to have drunk 15 years ago.

I’m a big fan of Trotanoy but agree with most of the other reviewers that this wine is ok, not amazing. The color was still quite vibrant, medium crimson red. Nose was obviously all secondary at this point with charcoal, cedar, and mint early on, followed by a bit more of a tar, flint sensation. Tannins are still present but nicely woven into the wine as you’d expect, but none of the elements really stood out as exceptional. Still s …

Nice fruit. Seemed to lack some complexity, especially compared to what turned out to be the 2016 Esperance!! Amazing the vintage effect that seems to be at play here. Turns out CT agrees and rates the 2016 second wine slightly higher than the 2013 main wine. The 2013 is light in the mid palate. Not much tannin. Pretty ready to go. However, once unblinded, it seemed to give a lot more with time in the glass. (Was my wife, Yuko’s …

Pétrus night at Meyerise. Drank in Spiegelau Bordeaux Definition. Appearance is clear, medium intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of blackberries, blueberries, black licorice, nice layer of toasty oak. Developing. On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, medium alcohol (13.5%), very plush high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of blueberries, blackberries, vanilla toast oak, spices. Long plush finish. Very good quality. Elegance with plush power. Still early days for this Right Bank Bordeaux. …

This is unbelievably good for a 2013 vintage wine. It’s supple, elegant, well-rounded and drinking absolutely beautifully. Considering this is 1/3 to 1/4 of the price of good vintage Trotanoy, it is remarkable. Try it to believe it. A 94-point 2013. How?!

Holding on by a thread, and not much of a thread at that, the wine is more about its tertiary character, than its essence of red fruits, topped off with cinnamon, bunt leaves, and cigar box notes. Light on the palate, with just an essence of citrus and sharp, red berries, it is not a wine to seek. It has begun aging out. Drink from 2025-2025.

40th Wedding Anniversary Celebration - Round 2 (Meritage, St. Paul) : Very dark red color. PNP, drank a glass in a flight with '84 Dominus, '84 Leoville Las Cases and 97 Heitz Martha's. Well, Jason and I agreed that there wasn't a lot of fruit left here. Lol, that never happens! That said, it was still nice with all the dusty, firm tannins, woodsy notes, leather, cigar, dried earth and fading dark fruits. So still fun to drink, thanks Jason!

Unfortunately this was ever so slightly tainted by TCA. Shame because otherwise it seemed in great shape, red fruit, completely together - but the cork makes it muted.

A Friday in Hamilton : [Tasted Double blind] This pours deep ruby in the glass, opaque at the core with medium minus bricking. The nose is deep and rich showing blackberry, cassis, black plum, coffee grounds, a touch of vanilla oak, graphite, and some damp earthy soil. The palate enters on the deep and rich dark fruit with a cassis/liqueur note. The tannin is medium minus and silky with medium acid. The finish is built on the deep and rich …

My first 2013 Bordeaux. My guess is they are not all typically this good. Quite a lot of tannin but it is really fine and gives the wine a wonderful structure without being overdone or drying the mouth too much. The lower alcohol (13.5%) brings freshness and seems to tame some of Trotanoy’s usual power, or perhaps that’s just the vintage growing conditions. On the palate there is blue fruit and cassis. The finish goes on and on. To my …

This was a Winebid bottle with a spongy cork, but the wine survived well. Black plum and red cherry, a little graphite that might make you think Medoc, a bit of cigarsmoke. Smooth tannins for ‘86, black fruits, tobacco, and a little Earl Grey note. Nice match with the lamb. A-/B+.

Somewhat sappy sensation, gave the impression of missing acid. Slightly candied fruit, more candied and less cherry than say the Le Pin, but more fruity than the Cheval Blanc or the Montrose. Enjoyable. Easier drinking, more accessible, less "intellectual" than many of the other 1989 Bordeaux.

The 2013 has a lot more concentration and tension than I expected. On day one I had a small glass, that I let breathe for about an hour as the tannins where quite tightly knit. As the wine opened up it revealed a layered texture full of ripe fruit and spices. Everything so composed and coherent. On day two we gave it an hour in the decanter. The wine became softened, feminine and very elegant. Good fruit, nice acidity and …

small sample at a trade tasting about 20 minutes after opening good bright red color, plum, mulberries, pine and vanilla on the nose, on the palate a cliff with strong notes of truffle and bramble hovering over an open knit red fruit, earth infused, firm bramble, good finish of moderate length, over time the mid-palate intensifies nicely showing better ripeness, a solid Trotanoy and a very characterful one. **(*)+, 2025-2040+

Guys Night Out - Open your last bottle of something you had multiple bottles of at one time! : PnP - This was a treat being able to drink side by side with a 1970 Figeac! Open your last bottle (Jason and Mariellen's house) : Pop and pour, because this wine was a substitute that was opened at the last minute. It took some time to open up and really blossomed around the 1 hour mark. This was easy drinking with friendly red fruit. It was so resolved, complex and integrated. That combination seemed odd to me, but there it is.

Guy's Night: Open Your Last Bottle (Jason P's, St. Paul, MN) : Very dark red color, 6mm transitional margin. PNP, drank a couple glasses over 3 hours. Drank this next to the '70 Figeac. It was quite a bit bigger and more youthful at this point. But not really as giving, at least for awhile. The nose is reclusive, though it certainly evolves over the first hour plus to show cassis, exotic spices, boysenberry, and touches of blueberry compote. The …

Purplish-plum in color, the nose was predominantly vanilla (which kind of surprised me) and right after pouring, tannins predominated with blueberries a secondary flavor followed by a long finish. After a 1.5 hour decant a classic Pomerol profile emerges. Good tannins, smooth, well integrated with reluctant fruit and nearly invisible acid. It's elegant and well built but I would have liked just a bit more structure. It continued to open up until we finished the bottle at the 2.5 hour …

Cork fully saturated. A spectacular nose of quintessential mature Bordeaux fragrances. Barnyard, mushrooms and tobacco on the nose. This retains good acidity and vibrancy. Blackberry fruit is in tertiary development with lots of complexity. Superfine tannins. Lighter body but it is putting on some weight with more time in the glass. Can't stop sniffing this.

Med acidity, Med body, Med alcohol, Med tannins, Med flavor intensity and Med finish. Quite chewy, a lot of cacao and chocolate, nice salinity, mint, vanilla, white pepper, I like it. Not a very long finish but a very typical and classy pomerol.

Majestic in nature and character, what initially grabs you is the truffles, smoke, dark cocoa, ripe, plums and cherries on the nose and palate. But it is the incredible concentration and silky tannins with its long, intense, sensuous finish that brings everything here together. At over 50 years of age, it is all about the provenance. If you can find a well-stored bottle, grab it!

Wine in its own class. Perfume, sous bois, perfume, red fruit and dark fruit. Despite its 50 year of age, the wine still possesses excellent density and richness with hint of port-like sweetness. It still has more primary character than secondary character. It is youthful and energetic. While I am a fan of old claret, the wine is surely at its prime in my humble view even though I am confident that it can still age. Catch it in a …

Alex and William's Birthday Dinner (Tonny Restaurant, Geylang Lor 3, Singapore) : A solidly good, if not quite spectacular Pomerol, drinking nicely now. The nose was especially attractive, with lovely drafts of dark berries and plums, and then a bit of earth and meat, these wreathed with fragrant rolls of tobacco smoke and Christmas spice. A birthday gift and made sense to pop with a nice meal. It opened a touch musty and with a bit of a battle with the cork, but we decanted and strained and the mustiness blew off fairly quickly. As previous note mentioned this was better than you might have expected for an '81. Drinking pretty nicely. It's right in the window and perhaps maybe even on the back end of the curve. This was my last bottle....the prior one drunk about 10 years ago was humming, Sadly this one was well into the back nine. Fill was BN and it poured amber at the edge with an amber/ruby center. Still fragrant but advanced aromas of plum, prune, leaves, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Pleasant entry but the mid palate lost steam, and there were still some unresolved tannins that left this a little unbalanced in the finish.

Bottled truffles are what this gem reminded me of. Flamboyant, sensuous, opulent and showy, the wine is rich, deep, concentrated and still delivers plenty of chocolate-covered cherries and plums on the nose and palate. Fully developed, this is not a wine I would hold. So, if you own this stunner in your cellar, find someone to share it with and enjoy the ride.

The P Wine (Bourbon Steak, Aventura, Florida) : Notwithstanding that it’s firm and bound up in its structure, the ‘70 Trotanoy is really very good and quite similar to the Pétrus this year. The sheer intensity of the tense fruit is (almost) a match for the tannins and acidity. While you probably wouldn’t want to sip this outside by the pool, it makes a fine match for charred meat. It could go on like this for years to come.

First Trotanoy; better than anticipated given the average vintage and age; the nose shows plum, a hint of black currant, rose petal, cigar humidor, damp earth, and with air a hint of mint and herbs. At full maturity, and not quite as flamboyant as the previous bottle tasted last year, still, this is stellar juice! The nose of roses, oyster shell, cigar wrapper, truffle, fudge and dark plums kept you busy. Full-bodied, lush, round and fresh the vibrancy in the cherry and juicy plums hit all the right spots. As the wine approaches 50 years of age, there is no reason to cellar this for more improvement. No decanting was needed.
