Cascina Bongiovanni Barolo Riserva

Well balanced. Much better than last bottle (1 yr ago) both bought at winery. Last bottle was flat and boring. This had developed into a sweet cherry perfect ripe, with integrated tannins and earthy flavours, brics and tobacco. Well done !

Ohhhh WOW... Color. Pale red. Typical Barolo color. Nose. Definitive licorice, cherries, currants, potpourri, spices. Yummy. Palate. Rich tannic structure that etches it's character on your palate. Cherries, leather, strawberries, and cocoa. There's a fading of flavor at the end that isn't enjoyable. But the nose on this wine makes up for that.

Lovely ripe cherries, earthy, sweet tobacco, soft tannin, great balance.

Translucent ruby. Nose of violets, dense earth, a bit of tar. Layers of pure red and dark plum, stony earth, and a tangy chime of tar on the smoothly structured palate. Freshening acidity and firm tannin submerged by fruit. Longer finish of plum, tar, and balsam. Lovely with ribeye covered with mushroons. While camping at Green Point, Pacific Rim NP Reserve.

This IS a pairing wine. Uncorked at 11. Took an occasional sip over 7 hours. The tannins died down as did the floral and fruit. But once we paired it with pasta and salad (with tomatoes) the wine filled in the gaps of the food. Wow ! This is a wine to have WITH food. By itself one might give it a poor rating ; so don’t do that.

Very light, much like a pinot . lots of dirt and earth . pleasant borolo.

A very pretty nose of rose petals, pomegranate, cherry and balsamic. The palate is full and juicy, underpinned by abundant structure. There's a hint of meat and iron in the background and length is very good.

(Berry’s Italian Tasting) :: Tight, unyielding at this stage, but single vineyard shows it’s generosity and complexity. A broad panoply of florals and spices which promises to open up into something quite special over the next 5 years. Fine and very firm tannin.
