"Beautiful wine. Some wet hessian nose maybe from the cork which was in perfect condition for a 17 year old wine. This detracted from the experience. Went great with a 30 day old aged rib eye steak. Tannins have all but disappeared and some red fruit flavours coming forward. Great wine!

A demanding wine is how Tara described it! Strong dark wine overloaded with oak and dark fruit. Too overpowering for some but I loved it.

Bought it directly from Katnook as a museum release. Drunk alongside their 2005 Prodigy Shiraz which was fully developed and is quite clearly the better wine at this stage in my opinion (and I prefer Cab Sav). That said, this is still an excellent wine though it lacks a little balance with a tad too much acid. Plenty of black fruits, some eucalyptus, cocoa. Firm tannins even after 16 years in the cellar so this still hasn't hit its best …

Allowed to breathe in glass 1 hour. Clear inky dark intense garnet color, appearing quite youthful. Wonderful bouquet of blackberries, black currants, black plums and their liqueurs; cedar, sandalwood, fennel, vanilla, cardamom, leather, mocha, peat, sage, bay leaves. Volatile funky notes of shoe polish and meat juice intruded occasionally, as they commonly do with older New World style cabernet wines, but these blew off, and the wine improved steadily with air after several hours. Full body on the palate, seamless, …

PnP. Good balance in fruity and oak influence. Powdery tannin. High in acidity. A light body CS.

Eucalypt, bark, dark berries with a sour twist, charcoal, earth. Green capsicum, surpisingly soft/resolved tannins for the age, very nice

Got to be one of the greatest Coonawarra reds going around. Lush and velvety smooth. Soft deep red nose.

Surprisingly fresh and lush-fruited wine at 19 years age. Medium-dark ruby, still elegantly coloured and youthful. Bouquet of dense blackberry, cassis, mulberry, and cedar. Palate to match with overt mocha oak tones alongside black and red fruits. Tasted next to a 2012 Eden Valley cabernet, showed only slightly older thanks to deep fruit together with extensive French oak in early life. Very good wine to drink over the next 3-8 years. Tasted Sep 2018.

My notes from last time are still on the mark. Initially the fruit and acidity dominated, and the wine lacked balance. After an hour or more there was a mellowing. Perhaps a bit of balance came back, but this does not feel like a wine for keeping. I did buy this wine at auction with some age on it, so perhaps it has a history that is now coming into play. However on the basis of the last 2 bottles, …

As before a great soft Cab Sav. It will not last 20 years as the label suggests but at 12 years old it is fantastic.

Superb bottle. There’s cassis, sweet blueberry, mint and a heap of savoury spice on the nose. The palate is medium, with super fine tannins and a light mouthfeel. The finish is light, almost ethereal for a Cabernet, with a mix of fruit and spice like a Christmas cake. Great drinking. Bottle # 9790

Second bottle. Not a huge nose - there's a nice interplay of black currant, dark berries, leather, cigar-box and dry earth. Sublimely smooth on the palate, with a long finish of savoury spice. Not your typical mid week quaffer! But YOLO so drink up!

Pop-n-pour. Deep garnet in color. Fruit-driven bouquet with cassis, blackberries and touch of choco/coffee. Very light body and high acidity, especially for an Oz CS. It got layers in different stages of the palate but very light in intensity albeit high acidity. A very special and "extraordinary" CS. Good as a food wine but not quite match with heavy meats.

Still dark red in the glass. Subdued nose of blackberries, currants, plums, pencil shavings, leather and mint. The palate is really smooth, with fine integrated tannins. Finish is medium-long, with a great aftertaste of savoury spice & cedar oak. Still drinking quite nicely.

Blackcurrent, plums, aniseed, with leather, earth and some spice on the end. Slightly dusty tannins. Prefer the 2001 tasted recently over this one, but still a good Coonawarra Cabernet.

This is hardly a classical Cabernet but it's still pretty delicious in its style. Concentration and depth of flavour is key here and if that's not your thing you'll certainly not enjoy this. Cassis, blackberry, chocolate, licorice, vanilla. A black hole of dark fruits. Viscous. Tannins very much resolved. A big mouthful of flavour but only medium plus length. Acidity a bit strident and perky. Will impress many, but it really lacks a bit of complexity, elegance and balance for …

This is a little bit sharp as a wine. There is good fruit and structure, with nice tannins and oak. However the acidity is starting to dominate. Hopefully this is a bottle issue. Will try another bottle soon.

Drank on NYE 2012 Nose reveals rich cassis, plums and vanillin French oak. Palate of rich, concentrated, well rounded blackcurrant, blackberry, plums with well integrated vanillin French oak. Full flavoured, full bodied with smooth tannins on the finish. An amazing wine which is drinking beautifully now but, with the large fruit concentration and tannins, will age for another decade.

Brick red to purple in the glass, the nose has plum and blackberry, the front palate opens with ripe with blackberry and has great complexity with some earthy/cedar notes weaving their way throughout the palate. The tannins are ripe and approachable, but frame the wine well. It is obvious on the finish that there was use of high quality oak with a vanillian richness added to the wine that complemented it's considerable length. A very nice bottle of Cabernet. Nose had black currant, herbs and eucalyptus. On the pallete was black currant, graphite and a lingering sweetness. Very balanced with nice mouth feel. It continued to evolve over a two + hour period open in the bottle. Overall impression from others it was shared with was somewhere in the middle between Bordeaux and California cab in style.

Decanter Australia and New Zealand Fine Wine Encounter (The Landmark Hotel, London.) : Poured from a newly opened bottle with no decanting time. Light purple in colour. Very nice Cabernet nose. Tight and restrained but definitely showing its class and potential. Finishes long. Shame I couldn’t allow it more time to open up in the glass. 90 – 91.
