Charles Shaw Merlot

Normally I will stand behind the good man Charles, but on this one I have to pass. It's not terrible, but there is nothing there. It's Welch's with alcohol. Drink this at 3am after the bar when all taste buds are dead. 77 points - Wine Spectator ($3)

it was ok. Considering that two buck chuck is usually a crap shoot, this one was somewhat a winner.

I did not like this at all. Starting with the bouquet, it was hard to get a bouquet out of it, but you get a strong smell of sour cherries, then a quick coffee smell at the end. When you just start to taste it, you get a sweet cherry flavor that made me

Excellent Merlot, loads of plum, very rich, spicy. It was great on its own, but wasn't as great as I hoped it would be when I added food to the equation. Great wine for a great price, obviously.

I won't rate this wine because I rarely drink it on its own merits. But it makes the perfect pitcher of sangria every time! Salud!!

In my opinion this is the best of the Shaws.

Had the bottle with a grilled cheeseburger. The wine really went with it fairly nicely. No depth or big flavors, but not weak or devoid of taste. This is an average wine, well worth the three dollars. And while I realize you can get more wine for a little more money, when you drink wine daily it helps to have a few bottles of this in the cellar.

"Two Buck Chuck" is not explosive, but for the money you can't beat it. A very decent bottle of wine. Flavors of sweet baby plums and red raspberries; well-balanced. Nice finish.

Drinkable, but nothing special.

Two buck chuck that's really 3-buck chuck these days. Not horrible is about the nicest way to describe this wine. I've got about 3 more (different) bottles left in my ultra-cheap wine experiment, but so far I'm thinking the place to find real, enjoyable cheap wine is in the 8-10 dollar range, not the sub-5 dollar range. Tasting notes: Nose of cherry and petroleum, fairly sharp, strong tannin for a merlot, a hint of smoke. I suppose this could soften …

This was another good Charles Shaw wine. It doesn’t have the complexity of many fine wines but it is a good way for me to get my heart healthy glass of wine a day, the only draw back is it really loses flavor the next day.

Two-buck Chuck strikes again. Better than the Cab, not as good as the shiraz. As with the others, nothing to distinguish this, but perfectly drinkable at $2.
