Sierra Salinas, MO Monastrell, Alicante

No depth. Fruit for the first moment, then grapefruit juice. Eh.

Not a lot on the nose, a bit of berry and metal. Really short on the attack, quite short on the mid-palate and a bit of a tannin bite on the finish. It does have a hint of licorice at the end as well, which is the only thing particularly interesting to say about the wine. Bottom line: a wine that matches its price point, but nothing more.

Very smooth. nice finish. Lots of fryuit without sweeetness. GV at $10.

Smell of dark berries, oak, very smooth and silky tannins, quite drinkable already with a velvety mouthfeel. No obvious sulfur smell, as noted before. Good value for the prize.

Interesting wine - can't recall why I bought it from WL, but I digress. Pop and pour through Nuance wine finer. Ruby color, strong alcohol, dark berry and some wood on the nose. On the palate, medium tannins, slight alcohol burn at the back. Black fruit taste first, but an interesting tobacco, wood, earthy flavor lingers for awhile. This has already started softening with air in the glass -- will be interested to see how this evolves with some time. …

Mourvedre (Fort Collins) : Gross sulfury nose that mostly blew off; eggs, burnt earth, brushfire. On the palate tight, bitter, no fruit, short, ugh. This may just need some bottle time but for now, no thanks.
