Decanted 8 hours. Wonderfully complex and earthy. This is a food wine, so be sure to have some good meat with it.

Decided to take Shae's advice and drink a 2022 young. Since I've only been allocated one 2021 Kodo in the past getting two for 2022 seemed like an no brainer to crack one open and see what all the fuss is about. Opened and aired in bottle (half bottle consumed night one). Needed initial 1-2 hours of air but then was very accessible. Deep opaque purple ruby color. Aromas are dark black fruit, plum, wood spice, earthy stone, and a …

Nice pull by my host Agelvis for tonight's event. 4 hour double decant with another 3 hours+ of slow ox as we drank through it with new friends Michael and Janet. Dark magenta in the glass......initial nose notes of very typical VHR fruit with some orange rind to it. Palate revealed a richer, liqueur like red raspberry and blueberry compote fruit. Slight grip remaining to the tannins and a hint of iron on the back end. There is also a …

Four hour double decant, followed by a three hour slow ox. Very deep dark electric ruby color. Blueberry, raspberry thumbprint cookie, vanilla fondant, and subtle orange rind and rosemary. Dry, buttery palate, with good acidity. Plush, medium intensity tannins on the longish finish. Opened this for my friend Mark, who is visiting for a few days. Everyone enjoyed this wine, but it is clearly highly manipulated. It’s a quaffable liquid dessert that is indeed fun, but not likely to improve …

While in Napa I had the opportunity to taste the KE lineup over several days. Day 1 my favorite was Rhad. On day two my favorite was Kaannos. The whole line up has potential to silence the critics. I look forward to having this vintage in the cellar to revisit over the long haul.

2022 Kinsman : The 2022 Kodo hops-skips-and-jumps right over the front end of its execution and immediately settles cozily into a mid-palate density that melts like Ingrid Bergman in the arms of Humphrey Bogart (It’s a Casablanca reference kids… you know, Casablanca, the movie? As in, a movie from a movie theater? You see, a theater is an establishment where you leave your house, go outside, and drive to a public place…. ‘Outside’ is a magical place that is different …

Some quick notes on the 2022’s from Kinsman (expect more detailed notes from CSIMM on his thoughts). The 2022 vintage was a minefield, with massive heat spikes leading to difficult picking decisions and very uneven quality across the valley. I’ve already had some very poor bottles from high end producers, but also terrific wines that navigated the challenges beautifully. These Kinsman wines are in the latter category, displaying stunning aromatics and gorgeous fruit quality. When done well, I find this …
