Aurelien Verdet, Nuits-Saint-Georges

Light brickish red. Mushroomy nose typical of many Pinot Noirs. High acidity with a touch of caramel. Wanted to like this wine, but it just doesn't measure up to what it should be.

A mature medium to lite bodied Burgundy. Ready to drink now but will hold for a few more years. Moderate complexity, pleasant nose of ripeness, a bit of soil and fruit. Short but nice finish. Enjoy now or hold for a few years.

A pointe. Has a purity and lightness not typical for a 2009... an attraction! Moderate weight, good fruit. Beautiful balance. Above class.

Quality village wine. Pretty but has the darker fruit of a Nuits. Inviting but still slightly reserved. Significant fruit indicates the vintage. Seems to be beginning its drinking window. Enjoyed it, as did the other tasters.

Posting this review several months after consuming (forgot). I do recall other tasting notes being completely in line. Fruit has faded and this was one of the thinnest Burgundy's that I've ever had at this price point. I also remember it changing drastically from opening to 2 hours of decant. My family enjoyed it, so it gets a decent rating, but this is a pretty poor QPR.

Paul S's review was prescient, in that, almost 3 years after his excellent notes, this is still "a strange wine." The fruit, as he predicted, is fading away, leaving a wine that, while initially enjoyable on a modest scale, began fading into a shadow of itself over the span of a couple of hours.
