Ratzenberger, Steeger St Jost Riesling GG, Mittelrhein

Everyone deserves, once in a while, to drink a good Spatlese.

In color we can detect already quite ripened riesling - golden color. Citric, floral and herbal bouquet. In taste there is surprisingly quite high sugar, if i would be tasting this blind I would think it is halbtrocken. Acidity is also quite high nicely harmonizing with residual sugar. There is also characteristic bee wax taste present similar to Wolfshole GG 2013 vintage. Fun to drink. Its in a great shape.

At Chris' place. Outstanding, had a lot of phenolics, complexity, mineral, a sort of ripe green elements to the nose. Youthful and balanced, long finish.

Glass: Gabriel Standard Popped and Poured Nose with Flintstone, smoke and some floral aromas On the palate the wine presents itself rather on the sweet side for a trocken Riesling. Nice acidity and aromas of ripe yellow fruit. Finish is medium.

fortsatt ung, stilig GG med svalt rasepreg; eple/sitrus, tropiske toner, blomster og eksotisk mineralitet. Syrlig vin med intens munnfølelse. Flott til mat. Bør ligge noen år til.

A good friend brought this over to share. Many months ago so I forget the particulars except I do remember how much I liked it - really good. I was so impressed with the acidity- very up front, very crisp. The oily viscosity so common to German Riesling was missing (I do like that dimension). This was all about the flavors and acidity - an outstanding food wine. Have been unable to locate anywhere that sells it.

Off-dry, good acidity, great fruit concentration- all well integrated with the 13% abv. Very enjoyable. Ready to drink but the content allows 5+ more of bottle age. 2005 was indeed a fantastic vintage.
