Well this was very interesting. Other bottles, while very enjoyable, seemed to be advancing quickly and had a wonderful rustic charm. This bottle was very structured, polished, and full of promise. Etheral cherry fruit with some nice floral notes and plenty of forest floor undernearth. Quite disciplining tannins and lively acidity, but never felt rich or over the top. It's somewhat silly to score this wine as I think my enjoyment of it exceeds its objective quality. This is very much one of those polished rustic wines, to which I have no objection to at all. This scores higher than my last bottle 6 months ago. Fruits still present but in the background. On initial taste, tannins were heavy, but receded to the background after spending 2 hours in the decanter. Hints of raspberry and lemon peel. Amber hue with bricking on the edges noted. I think this may improve slightly, but it's otherwise ready to go -- Drink.

Initial signs were not promising - a touch of stewed fruit and softness on the palate. 15 minutes later this appears to have tucked its shirt in and straighted its tie. Decanted for 30 mins. Medium ruby color with nice clarity and some bricking towards the edges. Nose of ripe red cherry, cherry cough drop, touch of brown sugar and sweet baking spice and a hint of something in the mint/herbal family. Opened and drank a glass a couple of weeks ago Vacusealed and put into a standard refrigerator. Drank two more glasses tonight with a lamb shoulder chop. Spicy and peppery on the nose. The feeling on the palate is similar with lots of energy and acidity. A swirl of flavors. Young but ready. Suggest opening for an hour at least.

Slightly more mature than I would have expected and with the faintest touch of a rustic edge. Beautiful high-toned cherry fruit, but softened by leather, ceps, and coal dust. Rather lithe on the palate, but with a bit of a chewiness on the finish. Hard to pin this down - lovely to drink, feels like these may need more time, but also feel advanced in some aspects. The perplexing qualities of Piedmonte.

This bottle seemed at the beginning of its drinking window. It has the presence and weight on the palate that one would expect. Although tannins remain firm, they are ever so smooth and a hint of sweetness has crept in. The nose is a rich mix of spices--camphor and cinnamon perhaps, but more complex and interesting. I'd reckon that a similarly good bottle, kept a further 5 years, would be even more interesting and integrated.

Judging from previous tasting notes, there may be some bottle variation. I loved the 2009 and picked up this 6-bottle case from Berry Bros and Rudd a few years ago. I had high hopes but these were not entirely fulfilled until today’s bottle. Exceptionally good. PnP and let sit for 20 minutes before sampling. No orange at the edge. Roses, cherries, menthol, wet earth. Drank with a sausage, broccoli risotto. Fine, grippy tannin, mineral, fruit and a tart then mouth drying finish.

Wow. Decanted for 30 mins. and it barely needed it. Heady aroma of perfume, flowers, mint and wet soil. A huge delicious mouthful of flavors and a 30+ second finish. A great Barolo from one of our favorite wine producers. Very happy.

RP gave this wine 95 p.....I must admit that I am more close to 90. Now 9 years Old and a odd smell of mushrooms and old wine hit my nose. Not as Burgundy as many other Barolo from this year. It seemed not good ,but perhaps a bad bottle. The taste was not better , disapointing.

94-95p Wonderful traditional Gramolere. Shows a bit more depth than the 2008 and bit more style than the 2011. This is a bottle to cellar even though it drinks beautiful now. Great transformation in the glass starting out with ripe dark fruit with a candied touch and then later plenty of subtle balsamics and floral notes appear. Powerful and youthful, but still a slim, juicy and feminine expression.
