This is a Wow wine, with a big nose of sweet flowers followed by a palate of mature red fruit, cherries and berries. Pop, decant and serve after about 45 minutes. Outstanding balance and it disappeared fast. Even a confirmed "I don't like fruity wines" guy loved it. This is the kind of wine that Abe made that we love. Power and finesse together with a sexy mouth feel. Hey Abe - How about if you tell Raj Parr to …

A really cool expression of Syrah. A natural wine through and through, with higher than usual acidity, and significant cloudiness. Also a Syrah through and through, with violet and black cherry on the nose fading into black pepper on the finish.

Deep garnet to black, excellent if somewhat one-note nose of blackberry, boysenberry, dark plum, the palate is similar and very dense and I believe has actual sugar as well as extreme ripeness. Tannins provide some relief as the acidity seems very low, amazing 16+ ABV seems not to intrude. I did not enjoy this wine although I also think there is nothing improper. Tried to sip this with a grilled sirloin and found it not only unrefreshing but simply refusing …

Still quite young. Taste of dark courant, with some bitters. Slight spice at the end. Good earthy nose. Needs serious decanting, or a few more years in the bottle. But well worth the wait.

No formal note, drank it in mid-2017. Enjoyed it. Not an oddball science experiment at all. Good solid wine.

A unique wine, unsurprising given the producer. Jammy but not overly hot given the nearly 16% alcohol. Olive nose, the palate adds raspberry/currant jam. Fairly acidic but light tannins. Not sure how this will continue to age or if it's showing its best right now but it's my only bottle. As always Abe expands ones palate.

A big, dark wine. Black/red cherry, cocoa, roasted meat, some black pepper aromas. The flavors largely match. Big mouthfeel. Medium acidity, mostly integrated medium+ tannins. Drinking well now, I would probably drink sooner rather than later before the fruit fades.

Somewhat of a monster. Decanted off of a fair amount of sediment. Deep garnet color with lots of brick. The nose jumped up immediately, showing black cherry, cooked cherry, rosted meat, black pepper, and a welcome touch of eucalyptus. Very full-bodied on the palate, heavily extracted, with cherry-pepper flavors leading over tobacco. Acid balance is pretty smoothed-out, given the bottle age. The finish is long, with iron filings and white pepper notes ahead of low tannins. This is a pretty …

Paired with lamb chops and opened about five hours before dinner. Nose is nice meaty Syrah of pepper and fennel. Based on the nose alone, this was going to be great with the lamb. But the mouthfeel is disjointed and all over the place. Like someone who loves the Northern Rhone and wants to make Cornas (yay!) but has very different fruit and isn't sure what to do with it. This isn't an Arnot-Roberts style cold climate Syrah with "balance." …

Much better than my experience with a bottle a little over a year ago. Mint, berry, blood - dark, thick and interesting. Lots of sediment.

I had this at the Restaurant at Meadowood about 2 yrs ago. The som apparently knew Abe and thought it was amazing. I thought it was good so i purchased some and finally opened one. It was pretty decent. Hard to believe it was syrah because it is a different type of syrah. No overtly jammy flavors but very earthy. Fennel, peppers and squash mixed with some dried cherry. Firm tannins and just a different type of syrah. Good..I'd like …

Started off great, reminding of the brighter and sweeter side of the best Ojai's I'd had years back. Raspberry and tarragon. It went well with some olives and OK with cheeses. Then either it changed quickly or I got sick of it quickly and eventually couldn't even finish my last glass.

A very different Syrah, the 2008 Androkteinos delivers a lovely fruit, white pepper, orange zest and fresh green tones of thyme and sage. The palate is perfectly integrated with a lovely balance - except from the acidity which linger on in the end palate in a strange way. To food the wine is even better and the acidity is just lovely. There is now way I can tell this effort contains 16.2 % alcohol. The integration is just amazing. Taken …

Excellent nose of dark berries and earthy (almost moldy) tones. Smooth taste--much smoother than I expected from this wine without decanting. Dark berries again, but there is a lightness to the taste that's very pleasing. Some tannins towards the aftertaste come out. Excellent.

Yeah... no. God knows I love Abe Schoener, but this wine tastes like an Encino tween who thinks he's the next Nick Drake because he installed Garage Band on his iPhone. It tastes like someone harvested some really great fruit several weeks too late, dumped in a miscalculated amount of tartaric acid in a desperate attempt to make it taste, uh, more French?, and hoped for the best. Sorry, folks, didn't work. I am, however, impressed that many of the …

Syrah and Grenache at Blackstone Steakhouse (Blackstone Steakhouse Norwalk CT.) : Wow! This wine was drunk sandwiched between a Colgin and a SQN at a Syrah tasting. I got a nose of violets, raspberry and cherry. The wine was big, thick and syrupy with cherry, raspberry and blackberry flavors. Got a lot of heat on this, probably because it tipped the scales at over 16% alcohol. Made the other wines seem pretty tame. I think if I had this as …

This wine is obviously quite nice but the rating didn't rise about 90 because it was a little hot on the palate. 16.2 is sometime OK with syrah but it is tricky. Have enjoyed many scholium wines better.

Drank with the 2008 Bedrock Wine Co. Syrah Whole Cluster Hudson Vineyard. This was such a better wine, which is saying something. The Bedrock is great but the Scholium is on a different level, richer, more density. We drank very well tonight. This was as good as I hoped it would be.

What's up Molasses? That plus prunes and fruit leather, with a strangely medicinal herbal element define the nose. A butcher shop twang permeates the palate, blood sausage and roast meats are offset by fruit leather, espresso and blueberry coulis. This is a very unique wine, I'm not sure how to score it.

I apologize for the lack of detailed notes on this wine - it really deserves detail. It has been a long Fking week! The wine has an amazing on the nose - berry- and something indescribable but delicious. The palate is fruit central. Initially (upon popping) it was too hot - after two hours the heat is gone and the wine in balanced. Man this is yummylicious wine!! WOW! The finish is lengthy and the wine makes me happy. Minimum …

Syrahs on a Sunday Afternoon : When Abe's wine are sound, they can be outstanding as this one was. Inky purple in color. The nose is very nice; earthy, bacon fat, black raspberries and black pepper. On the palate, this is a touch sweet, I would suspect some RS even at the 16.2% stated abv. Plenty of tannins. Some heat on the finish. Kind of in the Syramarone class, but very enjoyable.

Dark red color, nose od blackberry and dark fruits. Smooth ripe fruit on the palate, some RS makes this finish sweet, bur balanced with acid and ETOH. This is very different, but an interesting wine nonetheless.
