Michelini i Mufatto Bierzo A Merced de Bierzo Valdeviñas

Did not match my expectations tonight. Good tension and fruit profile. The wine however remained rather tart, as other bottles in the beginning, even after hours of air, whereaes others have opened and softened by that time. Maybe bottle variation, maybe the state of evolution. I have a few more to find out in the future.

Softer and more settled. Perfumed and expressive on the nose. After a few hours in the open bottle the wine seems ready to roll. Maybe slightly less expressive on the palate than on the nose but juicy and harmonious. With notes of wild cherry, blackberries, fresh olives, bell pepper, elderberries, black pepper, slaty minerals, leather and soil. Medium body with good balance

Similar notes, maybe more herbaceous expression. Ripe berry fruit with earthy minerals. Well structured and balanced. In need of air at this stage. Better on day 2

Very fruit forward upon opening reminiscent of a quaffable cote du rhone. After 2-3 hours of air this gains depth and complexity, still with flavours reminding on a grenache blend but with structure and complexity more of a pinot. Similar experience with earlier vintages. Great balance and interplay between fruit and secondary elements. With notes of wild cherry, red plum, red currant, blackberries, subtle hints of licorice, wet stones and fresh earth. Highly delicious

Fruity, but rustic. One dimensional versus layered. Enjoyable versus interesting

Really classy. A nose of strawberry, raspberry, blackberry, spices and floral notes. Juicy taste. Very good structure and nice acidity. Mature tannin. A truly delicious wine with a very good QPR.
