Dona Paula Torrontés Estate

Classic flowery Torrontes aromas. Hmmmm..oak? Not sure if I like that idea overall, but this end product was good to very good. A slight hint of flintiness and minerality bumps this up to an 87.

Intensely floral on the nose. On the palate, there initially seemed to be sufficient acidity, and the flavor was that of liquified violets. After a bit, it did seem too floral, and a bit cloying.

WSET Intermediate Course, Session 4 Tastings (Washington Wine Academy, Arlington, VA) : Appearance: clear, pale-medium intensity, lemon. Nose: clean, medium intensity, peach, lemon, heavy oak - vanilla and smoke. Palate: dry, medium acidity, light-medium body, lemon, lime, sweet peaches, more heavy oak - woodiness, smoke, some petrol and salinity, medium length/finish (primarily salinity). Conclusion: poor-acceptable (not really sure why they decided to put Torrontes in oak, but it didn't really work out for me).

This was a fine Torrontes, but I wonder if I'm getting sick of the grape. It's just a little too floral, too musky. You have to have certain foods to pair with it. I think I'd rather have an unabashed fruit bomb like the Crios instead of this, which is more restrained, but maybe in this case not any better for it.

I liked this o.k, but finished 4th in blind tasting of 5 Torrontes. Beautiful color and nose was interesting: peach, floral, a little peanut. Tasted peach, pineapple, minerals, but then gets a little sour and bitter on finish.
