We poured the wine into a decanter, served the first glass straight away, and followed the wine over a period of about two hours. It was medium ruby in colour, medium-bodied, balanced and almost Burgundian in style, with cherry and tons of freshly brewed coffee on the nose and palate, paired with medium-plus acidity, medium-plus round and well-integrated tannin and very good length. A rock solid, oak-influenced Blaufränkisch.

The nose on the wine was a little off putting but it eventually opened up into a nice rich wine. There are strong tones of cherry and some fruit with a bitterish finish - not in a pucker your mouth sense but certainly a differentiation from other red varietals. The wine is also a little dusty and smokey. A good wine but not one to rush out and put in your cellar - maybe we drank it too early.
