Underrated terrific with a meal of leftover steak

Forgotten bottle in the cellar. Surprisingly fresh, almost no oxidation, medium dark red, ample tannins remaining. Don't laugh, but it reminded me of a nicely aged Piedmont red, like a well made 10 year old Dolcetto. Good fruit balance, nice mouth coating, with medium finish. Very pleased!

Subtle berry nose, strong berry up front then quickly fades to subtle spice. A bit uni-dimensional but OK house wine.

A South African favorite of mine from several years ago, easily in the 88-89 point range back then, I set one bottle aside to see how this would do with some age. Inky purple color. Beautiful smoky violet peppery nose. If only the palate would match. Unfortunately, it’s evident this wine is a bit past its prime. Dying Rhone-ish flavors. Not bad, per say, just very muted and lacking a real body. Short finish. Day two: no discernable improvement.

Drank (<1 glass) of the 1st bottle of this 4 years ago. Horrible. 2nd bottle sat menacingly in my cellar as I wondered if I could pawn it off on anybody. A little beyond peak & I would suggest that you drink it now. Even at that, was a very decent pop & pour and captured the fancy of some who had never sampled Pinotage.

Smoky, dusty nose. L said she smelled pate too. Not much complexity to speak of but a decent Rhone blend. Quaffable. I'd buy it again if it were on sale.

Toasty and full, but not very complex. Nice match with Indian food, deep fruit flavors and quite dark. Doesn't need much air in my opinion, will drink the second bottle soon.

90% shiraz, 7% mourvedre and 3% viognier. aged in second- and third-fill french barrels for 14 months. dark berries with lots of herbs and tobacco as well. 14.5% alcohol.

The cork was soaked through with wine, so I don't completely trust this tasting. The follow-through was a bit burnt, but that could be due to oxygen. Despite this, I enjoyed the wine quite a lot. Nice balance.

Popped and poured, definitely caught the meaty pinotage aroma on opening. Currant and funk on the nose with more of the same on the palate. Starting to fade away, drink them if you have them. Good, but not as good as the last bottle I tried.

Used for slow cooking tough cut of beef. Drank with meal afterward. Very nice wine. Strong nose with lots of currants, black cherries and chocolate. Some leather and dirt funk if you care for this type with smooth tannins. This wine got pretty good marks (86-89) from the group!

After reading everyone's tasting notes, I was afraid to open the bottle! But to my suprise I truly enjoyed the wine, I thought it was excellent! I wonder if I'll feel the same way about the second bottle..

Great QPR wine. Definitely shows its Syrah the moment the bottle is uncorked. Dark plum aromas with a peppery finish.

Lots of bouquet, plenty of taste on the palate straight out of the bottle. Very good with sausage, peppers, potatoes in tomatoe sauce. Nice aftertaste, too. Fair value at $15.

Rich, spicy red wine. Very dark garnet, with whiffs of cedar, spice, and red currants in the aromas. On the palate it was more currants and blackberries. Medium tannins, as others have said, but definitely spicy.

Fairview Wines QPR Tasting (Parkhill's) : Dark ruby/garnet. Hot nose with red fruits and a little funk. More red fruit and a little funk in the mouth. Soft, supple tannins, medium acidity. A sort finish. Never a wine that has really impressed me. The GDR in Villages is a big step up.
