Schug Merlot Heritage Reserve

8th bottle of tasting party. Bit nose & full earthy vegetal plate with notes of mild dark fruits. One of the top 2 wines of the night. Probably at it's peak, so if you have them drink them now.

Solid merlot, probably a bit past it's prime. A good example of cool climate merlot, early, red fruit, nicely evolved tannins, slight bricking but still holding on.

No specific notes other than remembering that it was drinking rather well straight out of the bottle. Very good all around merlot

Dark cherry and cola on the nose, some floral notes in the background. Full bodied dark fruit with considerable bite. Nice solid tannins on the finish. Very solid merlot.

Paired really well with beef, no big surprise there. Great flavor. We drank it too quickly and wish we would have bought another one...

Started off a little tight, but some time in a decanter and it really opened up. Floral/herbaceous nose with notes of blackberry. Nice balance of blackberry on the palate. Has the tannins and structure to cellar at least another 4-5 years or more.

This wine was tasted on November 28, 2007 by a panel of 8 tasters in a blind tasting format and paired with Penne pasta with smoked chicken, fresh asparagus and shitake mushrooms. This Heritage Reserve Merlot is blended in the Bordeaux tradition using Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon for maximum complexity.
