Westerly Merlot Estate Reserve Westerly Vineyard

Was one of those wines that seemed like it had something good hidden beneath one very dominate off note. Was passable upon opening but went downhill fast. Dumped 3/4 down the drain, was just that uninspiring.

Enjoyed this in CA at my wife's 30th HS reunion a week ago...very nice merlot. Popped and poured, immediate nose of dark chocolate and assorted dark fruits, raspeberries and some blackberry standing out. Initially seemed a tad hot, but rich and hedonistic, kind of reminded me of some higher end Washington state merlots, being from the NW, these days. Excellent bottle, score may be a little low, should age nicely.
