Camille Giroud, Grands Echezeaux Grand Cru

Strange bottle. Had one of these from the same source, see May 2019 note. This was oddly thick and concentrated. Hard to believe this was ‘70s it was so heavy. Not necessarily flawed or maderized or anything, just strangely syrupy. I recall the last bottle being tertiary and in its final phase of enjoyment where as this is unresolved, big, and not especially pleasant.

Subtle, soft, delicate, red and black cherry somewhat roasted, underbrush, dry earth, trace smoke. A fresh pour has much more brightness and freshness to the red berry fruit. Some damp leather in the earlier darker notes. Fresh pours offer glimpses of perfume and better fruit, but fades. Apparently this is a library release, and it shows that state of arrested development where it is youthful but also stunted in terms of development and nuance. Pretty good. Interesting to try.

Berry Bros & Rudd - One Day Burgundy Wine School (Berry Bros, London) : Horse piss and sweat, sheep shit, leather, wet hay over lying some red currant fruit Acid tannin, dry, red fruit, very savoury with, perhaps, a hint of porty rancio. Moreish. Not really sure if I like it or not. I do know I want to keep drinking it until I've made a decision, which could prove costly.

La Paulee SF - Tasted side by side with the 71 Chambertin, brought by David Ramey. Both were better than expected.

Mature, caramel nose; strawberry palate with a touch of caramel and sense of chaptalization; medium tart finish
