Domaine Henri Boillot Volnay 1er Cru Champans

Dark ruby magenta in color. Very aromatic nose shows lifted baking spices, red small fruits, mint, candied florals and tree bark. The palate shows savory red fruits, the lifted spice, good acidity, present tannins and a finish that shows a slight hint of green and unresolved oak. Interesting that the nose was far, far better than the palate in this showing.

Open another bottle, 5 years after the first one. It is now fully matured but has lost its "sparky" personality: a bit boring average Volnay. Although, it preserved the typical black-fruit accent

This is very pretty Volnay that’s drinking well after just abit of air. It’s reached the stage where the rich, penetrating dark red fruit is is still somewhat forward and the earthy, slightly brambly, sous bois undertones, counter balances it beautifully. This was a delight tonight and a pretty good qpr.

Tonight this bottle needed about 4 hours of air to begin to open, then it was displaying lots of penetrating, dark fruit in a rustic format with abundant earthy, sanguine notes. Very nice but still very young with lots of forward looking potential.

It’s too young, probably needs at least 5 more years in the cellar, but already very complex and interesting wine showing great potential. Amazing how much it changed in the glass after one hour of decanting. It started a bit rough with a big structure, but somewhat watery palate; quickly developed beautiful notes of red current; then, changed again with strong notes of blackberry and black cherry; and finally turned into black-dry-fruit dominated wine Another interesting detail: 2 x price …

While still quite young, this was drinking nicely after a couple of hours of air displaying rich, penetrating, dark fruit with lots of earth and some subtle sanguine notes. Although this was drinking well tonight after some air, this has a lot of unrealized potential that still needs a some time to develop.

Flickinger tasting. Medium body with a somewhat pronounced oak flavor that should round out over the next few years. Complex, with dark cherries, minerals, and good structure.

Flickinger Tasting at The Casino (Chicago, IL) : A darker nose that's definitely more on the restrained side of things. The palate is similarly dark, with a bit of oak showing prominently right now. Wait some time for this to settle in, but not too long, as I don't think the stuffing is there for the long haul.

Flickinger "Significant Cellar" Tasting...the New Releases (Chicago, IL) : Tasting. Similar to the Caillerets just tasted, also a bit of liqueur and jam, just not showing the same level of concentration and medium-term potential for me.
