Good petite sirah. Double decanted an tasted after 2-3 hours. Blackberry primary on palate with some herbs and chocolate behind. Moderate tannins. This is a big wine with good structure and strength. Medium acidity moderately long finish.

It smells like blackberry, raspberry and mint. It tastes like grapefruit, black currant (cassis) and oak. The body is light/medium. The wine has juicy texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity.

Another very enjoyable wine from this winery. I actually preferred the grip it had right out of the bottle. Let it decant for 3 hours and it's a bold, dinner friendly wine. Pretty textbook petite, punches above the $20 mark we snagged it for in my opinion. I've heard the 21 is better, will have to source and compare.

What a great PS. Enough body and interest to stand alone for HH, while subtle enough to pair with most dinner foods. Love it!

Concentrated and dense black plum, blackberry, blueberries, dark chocolate but lifted by violets. Very tannic but not overdone, needs a good steak or lamb.

Super toasty oak, black pepper and slightly spicy. Blackfruits- blackberry, blackcurrant, plum. A big, bold immensly tannic napa wine. Full bodied with a length finish. Much smoother next day. Needs a long decant.

Started out quite stuffy and monolithic but opened up into a very enjoyable, more subtle wine. Abundant ripe black fruit, raspberry compote, black pepper, and some oak. Fresh in palate (give it plenty of air!), with some lingering tannin to accompany the 20s finish. Delicious.

4th Saturday Brown Bagger (R&D's) : Double blind. Aromas of prune, chocolate and leather, and it's plenty hot too. Firm and tannic, with blackberry and pepper spice. Easy to pick out as a Petite Sirah. (V&M)

Not tasted blind At restaurant. I do find this a great restaurant go to. Deep, inky purple and youthful in the glass, this wine opens with concentrated blackberry and dark plum on the nose, supported by a subtle lift of red berry and a touch of earth. The initial attack is bold and full-bodied, with plush dark fruit leading the way. As it evolves, the mid-palate tightens with dryness and structure, while the finish leans even drier, tapering off with …

A deep garnet color, and intoxicating nose. So big, yet so inviting. Medium-full body, medium acidity and big tannins, this was sturdy, but still refreshing. Drank beautifully straight out of the cellar. Flavors of black fruits, leather, and a smoky finish, this wine was wearing a monocle and playing triple word tiles in scrabble, all for under twenty dollars a bottle. A phenomenal value for the price. Corked half the bottle to see what day 2 holds.

Pop n pour. I noticed this isn’t my style. Lil too disjointed. Kind of clunky n heavy. Nose was very nice. Spice on the palate but just not in harmony . Rather spend my money elsewhere. Wine was drinkable I think I will pass on future purchases. Previous two bottles I ranked higher. This is how I’m feeling currently. Will revisit tomorrow to see if the wine is better than today

Black fruit, plum, blackberry, warm and ripe. A nice smokiness that adds some complexity. Charred peppers. Dried orange peel Rich, savory, with lots of ripe berries. Lots of sappy tannin, but structure is pleasant. Generous fruit.

Birthday/pizza wines (Châteauneuf-du-Salil, Albany) : Lovely wine that kept getting better and more fragrant as the night went on. Rich black fruit accented by bright minty and lightly spicy notes on a frame that's medium weight and surprisingly silken - this is one of the few times I've had a Petite Sirah where the tannin actually felt fully resolved. The structure here comes from the acidity which adds a sense of freshness and real vibrancy to the fruit, and the …

Salil's Birthday (Châteauneuf-du-Salil, Albany, NY) : [Double-decanted for 2 hours around 3pm. Tasted about 6pm.] Big, briary nose of red fruit. Tannins have softened, but the sweet fruit overwhelms them now. Just a beautiful wine with good pizza.

I love me a great aged petite sirah, and I especially love it when it’s from Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars and also happens to be my birth-year. It’s always a crap-shoot opening ‘older’ (keep in mind this is my birthyear) wines, but the color through the bottle looked excellent, and I’ve had great luck with this classic producer over the years. Top of the cork is flawless (even better sign) and for a split second I consider not using my …

Maybe, slightly lower acidity than typical Petite Sirah. Still, nice balance, calm elegance and a lot of complexity. Deep garnet. Medium plus body. Medium plus acidity. Notes of licorice, cedar, juniper. and graphite. Fruits of black plum, black currant and blueberries are ripe, but dry. Mid-palate of dried herbs and warm spices. Some soy sauce. Finishes with black tea and dark chocolate. Mysterious and captivating.

This is still holding on. Slow ox overnight then to decanter for a couple hours. Round, plush, rich, a bit dusty, dark fruits. Could still go a little longer but no need to hold at 19 years old. Probably better a year or two back but I have no complaints.

1994 STAGS LEAP WINE CELLARS NAPA PETITE SIRAH- tasted blind; not to be confused with Stags Leap Winery, this is a rare bird for me from a producer for whom I`m fond of their Cabernets; the colour showed some age with a dark coffee hue; the nose was a welcoming spicy, dark chocolate with a dollop of talc; the taste was so different with minty black currant and black raspberry with a hint of Brett; it was full bodied and …

Wow - what a surprise. I will happily give this wine one of the highest ratings it has received in recent years. I bought this wine on a whim many years ago at a supermarket and liked it so much I wonder if it would age well. It does indeed. Still very dark on the color, so right off the bat, I knew it was still at least ok. The nose was still very complex, some nuanced fruits, charcoal, fig …

Received as a part of a $250 Garagiste garage sale mystery box. Wow. This was awesome. Great acidity with red fruit, but lots of blackberry and bramble in the background. The tannins have receded, and it's showing beautifully. Best after 30-45 minutes of air. I'm not someone that normally likes California wines, but this was extraordinary. Sad that I'll never get to drink it again.

This is a conundrum. This first bottle might have turned, or be turning. Cork crumbled. Nose of serious old work funk and must. Not Petite Sirah-like at all. But rich purple-red color, and lush in the mouth with brooding inky thickness. Finishes very dry. I'm completely on the edge with this wine. Is it flawed? Is it turned? Is it just completely strange and out of whack to my palate against other reviewers? Giving it a 90 just on promise. …

Very inky and dense. Nose of cocoa, and dark cherries. Bold, balanced flavors, starting with cocoa, then flowing into a swirl of licorice, pepper, dark cherries and currants. Dark, but with a freshness. It ends on a sweet note, almost like a Marsala. Very balanced and delightful. Excellent with beef.

Like below, needed 3 hours to open up. Have saved a little bit for tomorrow just to see what happens. But what a lovely petit sirah, with a long, rich finish, a surprisingly robust fruit core for its age...tempered by the earth/leather. Just a pleasure to drink, but please wait a few hours. Curious what tomorrow will hold. Wish I had more.

Really enjoyed this. Not at all like the modern Petite's that I've had (super dark, inky, high alcohol, generally over the top). More like an aged cab to me. Dusty tobacco and spice with a still solid fruit core of raspberry and lighter red fruits. Definitely improved over the few hours we drank it. Also, like others, lousy cork that I had to strain out of the wine after it broke in half.... Garagiste sourced. Worth a try, but at …
