Chateau de Maligny (Jean Durup), Chablis Premier Cru, Vau de Vey

After some disappointments this bottle was more like it but definitely not one to hold on to

A lovely tropical fruit palate and an interesting tropical fruit array of flavours with a stony backdrop. However, as I have found with most of the bottles from this crate, the aftertaste is a little cloying. I really doubt that this has the legs to keep going until the community drinking window of 2012. I think this needs drinking up

Partnered lightly BBQd tuna steak. Classy but a slightly unwanted aftertaste. Huge variability from this crate

By far the best of the four bottles that I have sampled from this crate over the last five months. The nose was spectacular and complex. The wine had a syrupy texture to it. Virtually no acidity and a wonderful ever-changing mixture of almost semi-sweet tropical flavours coupled with the background stoniness. One of the most memorable bottles I have ever tasted.

Accompanied a seafood pasta dish. It was not a perfect match but I did feel it was a better bottle than prior bottles. Otherwise previous notes apply

The nose was more open than my previous bottle and unexpectedly floral. On the palate it was relatively well balanced although somewhat dull and lacking in complexity despite a considerable aftertaste. It was pleasant but we were quite happy to leave the bottle half full for another night. I was hoping for something special as this is my favourite vintage for white Burgundy. The nose was classic Chablis, perhaps a little closed. What really surprised me was the freshness and acidity. This tasted like a four year old rather than a twelve year old. Having said that, there was nothing to get excited about. The complexity that I had hoped for wasn't there.
