I really liked how balanced this wine was. We let this bottle breathe for an hour, but it could have used a decanter to open up even more. The nose was less pronounced than expected and prevented me from adding further points. But the the palette had a harmonious balance that I really enjoyed. Also got unsolicited comments from another guest during dinner about how good it was. I think this was great cost performance.

This drank really well. Good depth and vibrant red fruits. Excellent balance.

Decanted for 3 hrs. Beautiful perfumed nose but palate felt a bith tight and toned down. Was a great companion to a Ragu, the tannins really needed some meat to balance out. Will try and hold rest of my bottles for as long as possible. This will get better over 10+ years.

Was hoping for a bit more....dusty tannins with big cherry fruit on a very dry finish. Nice value wine.

This was hella good. I opened the bottle and slow ox’d (after pouring myself a healthy Sensory glass) for two hours before drinking with grilled lamb loin chops. I was happy as soon as I opened the bottle, but it definitely improved over the drinking. The whole table was happy with the wine. It’s a very La Morra wine in the best way possible, and I wish I had more. Ethereal aromatics even at this age. Persistent fruit with firm …

Red fruits and spice. Nice wine, but I've had other vintages that were better.

The fruit is a bit on the cooked/warm side, but it is a nice Barolo, the drinking window will be rather narrow I feel.

What a deep, and beautiful, wine. I feel like I live two floors above the Montezemolo Gattera, but I can distinctly detect the deep aspects of flavor and mouthfeel - DEEP. 100% enjoyable. Drawbacks? The nose is not as prominent as you might wish. 50/5/12/18/9

Russk. I brought to CDC at Decaan. One of my WOTNs, but not the WOTN. Still showing firm tannins, and a touch of wet wood.

This bottle was just a little bit less convincing than the previous ones. Also showing a rather rapid deterioration during the second evening, but still enjoyed the ripe and slightly sweet fruit which was countered by the acidity.

Chocolate and red cherry, rather pronounced and beautiful too. Tight and refined on the palate as well.

The first evening showing quite a lot of heat from the vintage/alcohol with a bright acidity and fresh + ripe red fruits. The second evening it is a different story with the focus more on the spices and earthy touches. I preferred it the first evening. I don't think that the prime drinking window will last very long for this 'warm' Barolo.

Cordero got on my radar with the terrific 16 Monfalletto. I was excited to try the Gattera with a bit of age. This is a beautiful, expressive and young wine. It has a terrific nose of red cherry, floral and slight mint tones. It's packed with flavor and fine tannin. It was a sheer joy to drink. It picked up a bit of depth and power with air. It was also a fantastic match with Risotto and mushrooms. Highly recommend …

Popped, poured and let sit for five minutes or so. Aromas of violets, menthol, some volatile acidity, cherry and candied cherry. Color is fairly purple fading through purple-red and red to a ring of orange at the edge. On the palate fruit, fine tannin with just a bit of grip and a bit of warmth in the finish. The mid palate on this wine comes across a bit thin 30 minutes after opening. One of us felt like the volatile …

Ruby. Dark red fruit, bark (like a Mourvedre), low pitched brown spices. Medium to lighter bodied, good impact for its size. Bitter, medicinal cherry, ground coffee, and an uplifting twist of citrus peel. While it seems quite accessible upon opening the bottle, a little air reveals strong acidity and quite toothsome, albeit fine, tannins. I'm glad I took a look at this early and really liked it, although I think it is on the verge of folding in on itself …

Winery is located in La Morra. Monfalletto hill belongs to the Falletti family for 16 generations since 1340. In 1941, last member of the Falletti family passes away but married into the Cordero de Montezemolo family and then passed into the Cordero de Montezemolo family. A carignane-kind-of wild (medicinal) red berry fruit aroma. Some ripe strawberry to the nose. Cocoa, milk chocolate to the palate. 'Immediately accessible with ability to age.' Not a single vineyard wine, but a proprietary name. …

The nose was incredibly pretty with sweet spices up front, followed by lavender, mint, roses, dusty soil tones, dried orange and mineral-infused cherry. On the palate, I found medium-weight textures with zesty acidity paving the way for tart cherry, savory herbs and saline-minerality. The finish was long with mounting tannin that dried the fruit yet remained fresh and lively throughout.

Here I found a lifted and lovely nose of ripe strawberry and bright cherry, with sweet rosy florals and a dusting of spice. On the palate, medium-bodied textures were made juicy by vibrant acidity, as mix of raspberry, strawberry and cranberry fruit collided with youthful tannin, lending a gripping and tactile sensation toward the close. It finished floral, with spices, dried cherry fruit and a hint of palate-coating sweet tannin. I wouldn't say that this is a 20 or 30 …

I'm not so much a fan (just don't appeal to my palate preferences, on balance) of what Cordero produces these past years, but in this vintage, they've really done a great job capturing Gattera, Nebbiolo and the best of what the vintage had to offer. ~ 7 days on skins in stainless, then raised in smaller oak barrels/barrique, but it's not as cut and dry as that as there's freshness and varietal typicity notwithstanding the modern approach. Medium>Full bodied, this …
