Boschendal Chardonnay Appellation Series Elgin

This vintage is past it's prime and starting to degrade. It's still drinkable, but if you have any left, drink them now. I found several bottles of this wine on discount and have been drinking them over the past few years. This was a steal 3-4 years ago at it's peak, but now the wine is sadly in decline. Good value though-- like a good Maconnais.

Sweet pineapple, mango and unripe banana notes on the nose with butter, coconuts, vanilla and fudgy sweet oak. Dry, medium to fullbodied and pretty well balanced by the acidity. Rich and ripe fruit with oak pushing through like a bull. There's decent balance but one sure has to love the overpoweringly strong coconutty oak lactone to truly enjoy this. I can't do that.
