A beautiful wine, firm cork, little sediment, decanted 2 hr+, ruby color with clear edges; rose petal, plum, and spice on nose. Plum, dark cherry, and dark chocolate palate with firm tannins and medium finish. Wonderful with fennel and rosemary dry-rub lamb chops and mixed roasted vegetables.

Gamey initially. At first I thought it could be corked. But it was not the cardboard of a corked wine. Fruit emerged. Nice red fruit, earthy. Tannins pronounced. A bit unique of a flavor profile.

From magnum. Medium red small brick edge. Nose has preserved Amarena cherries, slight herb, very attractive. Leather, cherries, lip smacking acid, some sweetness of fruit à la 2002. Shortish finish.

From magnnum. Clear with some light browning at the rim in keeping with its age. Nose is floral (rose petals), dark fruit (black cherry). Opens slowly. Palate is silky with round attack, solid mid-palate, and finish of black raspberry, black cherry with a slight granularity. Finnish is medium-long. This is not an earth-shattering wine but for the year and price I paid a really pleasurable bottle. I don’t think it will evolve much but should remain where it is for …

Decanted and aired for 2 hours. This one has really come about. Worked well with deer entrecote and blueberry wine sauce. Kept developing during the night. In a good place right now. Will drink last bottle within 5 years.

Pure silk. The fruit is still lovely and one of the more enticing '06s I've had in that department. But it's the texture you really soon over.

Appearance: Bright and clear, the wine is of medium ruby colour with fading brick-colored rim and legs. Nose: Clean, with medium intensity aromas of red fruit of raspberry and cherries, sweet spice of clove, oak notes of cedar, mineral notes of earth, floral notes of violet, maturity notes of wet leaves. The wine is developing. Palate: Dry with medium (+) acidity, the wine has medium (+) tannin of ripe and silky texture, medium alcohol and medium body, with medium (+) …

Rather light red, slightly opaque, some brick colour at the edge. Nose with ripe strawberries, some cherries, some oak and spice notes, and a bit of developed notes. Medium(+) body with strawberries, cranberries, good concentration of fruit, prominent acidity, decent minerality and quite noticeable tannins with a bit of a hard feeling to them. Aftertaste with berries and tannins. Definitely good weight for a Volnay, but a but chewy and angular which makes it less charming than expected for the …

Wine was all about structure on opening...almost a charcoal/ashy element that veiled the fruit and acidity. Wine woke up quickly, fruit brightened and fleshed and overall was singing. Should have decanted. A little dark on appearance for Volany, but after opening up...very true to the village on the palate.

Just beautiful. Inviting nose with notes of leather and earth. Ripe with some red but mostly dark fruits and very open for business. There are earth and mineral notes in the background, but everything is balanced and harmonious with fine tannins. Nice length. Definitely in the peak drinking window and I don't see this heading downhill quickly.

Needs two hours to poen up, but this is a beauty! Lovely red fruits, leather, tar, roses on the nose. Similar on the palate, with really good length, fine acidity and good tannin. Fantastic food-wine.

PNP. Cork perfect. Color dark ruby w light brick on edges. Nose has cherry cola, early showed a hint of mint but after an hour has iodine and sous bois. Swishing gives almost all acid structure but there is some distinctive tannin that brings up the rear. Sipping gives soft mouthfeel and spicy sappy finish from seemingly lighter tannin. I think that this is showing signs of maturity but will certainly hold for awhile.

Started disjointed but came together strong. Very plush dark pinot fruit. Opulent and expressive nose of flower, violet, dark cherry and orange peel. Sizable for appellation. I thought too large at first, however this developed a strong and unexpected transparency.

I liked this so much more this time. I am wondering about the coravin since it has been a month and a half and the difference in acidity is really noticeable. Last time too sharp. Now, it was fantastic.

Coravin Pull #1 - dark cherry and tart black fruit on the nose with a little astringency. In the mouth this has a light-medium body but the acid really kicks in on the back side of the tongue especially in the finish...not my favorite sensation but after you get past that the finish lingers for a long time and is quite nice. This will be good to see over time if that "bite" in acid goes away. The tannins are …

Day 1: PnP, poured a glass straight away but let it sit for an hour or so before getting near it. I opened this because just after buying a few bottles, I read about the "gout moisie terreux" that had hit the 06 Volnay wines pretty heavy. I was a little worried but have to say, there is a lot to like here. Overall, the wine has a substantial structure and tannic spine that wants to take center stage. However, …

Great showing for this wine. It is now fully mature, with elegant soft red berries on the nose followed by flavors of retrained ripe red fruit, sweet cranberry, rose water, and subtle earth. Tannins are soft, midpalate is substantial for the appellation, and the finish is sophisticated for its level. I imagine that while at its peak, this should hold well for a number of years. Two bottles tasted this evening, consistent notes.

Well, I didn't have the guts to open a 2010, but I opened a 2006. Was not sure where it was going on day one, seemed a bit loose-knit, with a touch of cloying caramel sweetness. Day two cured all ills; sleek, taut, no cloy, good grip, some minerality, decent tannin. Very Volnay. What an evolution! A great effort considering that so many wines from this region were spoiled by rot. I might be underrating this, but I think it …

I've had a bunch of this, as it's usually a great value. Not this bottle. Mute and tame are words that comes to mind. Some raspberries and red fruits on the nose, muted fruit with a minerally edge on the palate. Unremarkable. Bottle to bottle variation I guess. Usually better juice.

Sweet earth, hints of baking spice, sappy rich red fruits. Genuinely quite irony and earthy, a very attractive quality. Maintains great purity and lift but has the richness of fruit of Pousse. Tannin is a touch heavy though not coarse and the palate is a bit monolithic with bright sappy red fruits and iron. Excellent for the pedigree. Very 2006, very Cotes de Beaune. Not sure it's a good value at the $45+ this wine goes for lately but closed …
