Producteurs Plaimont Madiran Plénitude

Near opaque black purple in the glass. Shy nose of black fruit and meat. Full bodied palate of black fruit. Not as much funk as one might expect from this appellation. Medium acidity. Medium plus tannins. In a very good place right now. Drink up.

80% Tannat, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, the grand vin from the wine cooperative in Madiran. Pleasantly less oaky than I thought it would be. Pretty typical of good Madiran, with a nice dusty, berry nose, and fresher and lighter in texture than its bigger, more international-style competitors, although there is not that much depth to the flavor. It's also not that tannic and pretty much good to go right now.

Dark black red color; tart berry nose with a hint of sage; good tart berry, boysenberry palate with high acidity and refined tannins; medium drying finish 87+ pts. (best 5 hectares of the co-op)
