Glaetzer Eye of Ra

2 hr decant, sampled at Oinoscent, courtesy of customer Pitch black color Fruit forward, very smooth juicy black fruit, berries, cherries, cola notes, a very thin oak layer, blue berries, some heavier floral notes. Palate with huge juicy tannins, blue berries, black cherries, sweet spices, extreme heat at first, thick full body, long finish, powdery tannins. Extremely youthful. Strangely enough, in the 2nd and 3rd sip of the wine, the alcohol heat is not so extreme.

This ‘16 ‘Eye of Ra’ from Ben Glaetzer was enjoyed with Ben & his distribution team in NYC. The Eye of Ra was one of the more unique wines I’ve ever tasted to this point in my drinking journey. This is earthy and rugged with a strong licorice, graphite, and vanilla-esque - eerily similar to that of a glass of Bourbon. Secondary notes of blackberry compote and milk chocolate dusting. I scored this wine 95 points.
