The wine is clear medium garnet. The nose is clean with medium intensity of aromas showing predominantly tertiary development - dried fruit (dried cranberry, fig, plum) and bottle age (wet leaves, mushroom, barnyard). The wine is developed. The wine is dry with medium acidity, high ripe tannins, high alcohol, medium (+) body, medium length and medium flavor intensity of dried fruit (dried fig, plum) and bottle age (mushroom, barnyard). The wine is good. Even though the acidity is lower than …

Fine Wines SG - Italian Varietal Wine Dinner - Nebbiolo, Sangiovese, Corvina, Aglianico, Nerello Mascalese (Porters Restaurant & Bar) : A garnet colour which suggested development. A completely tertiary nose of mushrooms and forest floor. While having a bit of dried prums and cherries on the palate, it is still mostly earthy and savoury. Great way to develop!

Now aging nicely with a brown rim. Sour cherries on nose, opening on air. Tannins soft with good balance. Good with rich food. Good value but very much an everyday wine. Drink up

Raspberry, some stem-like smoky notes, darker elements of charcoal and fragrant loganberry and blackberry. Spicy, some developed aromas, with a little meat, tobacco and liqueur-like fruit. Sort of smells Burgundian, and there is some classy black cherry fruit too. Quite austere in the mouth and a rather bitter, astringent attack – sour cherry and redcurrants. Very complex: earthy olive, tobacco, cherry fruit… elegant and bright, some grippy ‘green’ tannins. Unusual, unique. Needs food as the astringency will be too much …

13% alc...medium ruby...the nose is quite brambly, gamey, smoked meats, not as much garrigue as the prior examples (09/10), black roasted fruits...medium body, medium + tannin, touch of heat, roasted meat follows, roasted red fruit - a warm wine.

- Ruby color with slow forming legs and aromas of tea, blackberry and black currant. It's somewhat balanced and has flavours of black pepper, cherry and tea with a medium/full body. Round texture with a medium finish - Decanted 2 1/2 hours.

Interesting wine. Nice amber brick color. Nose of spice. Palate similar to nebbiolo. If blinded, I would think this is barbera from piedmont. Nice intro to campania aglianico.

Nice soft nose w/good legs especially for a wine of this price. Nice violet color with fair backbone on initial taste. Hint of Oak backbone, which held for short period. Cherry's, plums on the mouth. Flavor moved to medium heavy grape thru dinner. Nice w/pasta & red plum tomato sauce w/wine. I like this wine & would recommend as an superior value wine.

The smoothest Aglianico I have ever tasted. Cherry kool-aid, green tea with medium tannins and a quick finish. Not sure what to make of this, it's more like a green Pinot than any Aglianico I have had before. Drinkable, yes. Will I seek out another, no.

87-88 balanced and well made, but could seem underwhelming to some. after an hour of air, nose of tangy cherry, blueberry, and plum. hint of green herbs and mushroom. excellent mouthfeel. medium body with perfect acidity and round leathery tannins. soft texture and balanced structure make this a versitile food pairing but it goes down easy on its own. cherry and plum on the palette with an integrated tea leaf and flower petal note that adds interest to the juicy …

P 'n p. Smells like black cherry, plum, coffee and smoke, with touches of chile and herbs, and underlying earthiness and leathery, meaty savoriness that develop with air. Robust but composed - not at all over the top, and has a nice streak of freshness. Grippy tannins; palate acclimation helps, but some protein is certainly called for. Similar flavors as on the nose, but with a red fruit aspect. Adequate acidity to keep it fresh, drinkable, and food friendly. Pairing …

On the open the nose was flat and the flavors were pretty disjointed, but after 45-60 minutes, the nose opened up with cherries, and the taste congealed with nice red fruit and minerality, still with sticky tannins and high acidity. After a couple of hours, it became a very enjoyable light/medium bodied but robustly flavored wine. Very much enjoyed -- an astounding value at this price.

Not decanted, consumed over ~2.5 hours with and without food, and better with food than without at this stage due to some slightly sandpapery tannic grip and good acidity. Cherry skin & gently cooked red berry/currant fruit and some earth/toast/graphite notes, with notable structure as mentioned above but all in decent balance. Good now, especially for its level, likely better in a year or two.

A delicious Aglianico from Italy. Allowed to breathe for thirty minutes before tasting. Had a dark garnet color that was nearly opaque, with a medium amount of quickly descending legs. It was full on the nose with earthy spice, blackcurrant, and a hint of toast. On the palate there was blackcurrant, earth, mineral hints, and a touch of raspberry. The tannins were pleasant with increasing grip, and the finish was lingering for this medium to full bodied wine.

Nose is fairly muted, both right after opening and a day later. Good color, palate is fairly bright with acidity but that also is a bit muted. Flavor is massive sour cherries and some slight meaty component. It's a good mid week meal wine.

TN; Wines under $18 : Aglianico. Tight on the nose. Eventually shows some dark cherries. Very tannic. The only wine on the table that seemed to need more time. Juicy tart dark cherry fruit but a wall of tannins. Somewhat generic I guess, I thought it was a Merlot blind. Never really seemed to open for me.

A fantastic go to for an everyday Italian red. I love Terredora as a producer in general so I may be a bit biased. Bright fruit, good structure and balance with attractive cherry, violet aromas and flavors. For an Aglianico religious experience, dish out the money for Terradora's 2004 Taurasi which is off the charts intense.

Ruby red. Nose of currant, leather and dry wood chips. The palate is dominated by black currants with modest spice under tones. The acidity and tannins are quite mild resulting in a light mouth feel. the finish feels deliberately light. The biggest surprise for me wa the wife liked it -she normally prefers very fruit forward wines. 5/5+11/15+14/20+6/10=86
