Wine on downhill slide. Was oaky with tertiary fruits, quite a long finish despite a little tartness while retaining some acid. would not keep this long in future.

Incredible youthful freshness and vigour for a wine of 16 years old - perhaps indicative of the screw cap closure. Textbook

Served Blind - this was a revelation! Integrated oak and beautifully crisp fresh fruit, I guessed this had 6 or 7 years maturity, to find that it was 14 years old was remarkable. Purchased on release and stored properly this was in pristine condition. Lively, lithe and precise this has none of the heavy handed oak I instinctively associate with this wine. Very impressive and challenges my prejudices!

popped and poured. Drank alongside a 2007. Heavy handed oak dominates the fading fruit. All in all it was so so. Would drink these up soon. Both the 2007 and 2006 were much better 5 years ago when the fruit could stand up to the oak.

Tasted over four days. Ripe, featuring strong tropical fruit elements and obtrusive oak. Oak was especially prominent on the second day. By the fourth day the wine had shed most of its edges and delivered a pleasant tasting experience. QPR is none too good.

Drinking youthful even after 11yrs with pretty barrel notes, tropical fruits especially banana, cream and crème brulee, apples and vanilla kept nicely balanced with great acids and a cool note of citrus oil. Balanced out over 3 days.

Barossa Vintage Festival 2015. Penfolds Magill Estate Restaurant. 78 Penfold Road Rosslyn Park, South Australia, 5072, Australia. Popped and poured. Pale transparent gold in colour. Medium fruit palate, mellow mouthfeel, white stone fruits, mid palate nectarine, mild oak spice as it warms in the glass, lime. Mild acidity refreshes the long lemon, lime finish. 30 minutes open and warming in the glass, bolder fruit flavour, some tropical notes and oak presence which structures the wine rather than distracting from it. …

This is an excellent effort from Penfolds. An interesting chardonnay from 2006 vintage but still youthfull with good acidity.Spotlessly balanced wine with a nose which is present and evolving all time.Medium body and good aftertaste.Citrus, lemon, nectarine, hazelnuts, toast all comes around.I will try it a few hours later because it seems to have more to say....

Mix of wines at Via Alta : Toast, honeyed, cereal and some pear aromas. Medium length, this is holding on, with acidity pushing it along and leaving it with an element of freshness despite how honeyed and rounded out it is. Very good.

Blind Tasting in Astoria : this was pure Burgundy on the nose. Chablis (with my limited exp.) with some oak. light, fresh and young. the oak adds depth but does not overpower the floral, light and full of life notes on the nose. the mid is fresh, with a good zing and some power. excellent - one of the better dry whites i have had in a long time. amazing freshness for its age as well.

Birthday Dinner 2014 (Saint Pierre, Quayside Isle) : A nice wine, but a far cry from some of the great Yattarnas from the earliest vintages of the project. This had a rich, ripe nose – it was actually quite perfumed, smelling like sweet corn wreathed around a ripe yellow fruited core, with dollops of sweet cream and a little chaser of spice and mineral, all topped off with quite a bit of toasted oak. There was little doubt that this …

Super Bowl Weekend; 2/1/2014-2/2/2014 (Washington, DC) : Aromas of lime juice, orange peel, lemon cake along with some hazelnut. Crisp acid and driving minerals on the palate. The cream, marshmallow and nougat notes are subtle and woven nicely together with limestone and river rocks. I agree with fdub, who said this is similar in style to Leeuwin Art Series in style, although this is perhaps a bit more citrus-driven and zesty. A good Aussie lover friend gave this to me, …

Deep gold color. Explosive nose. At first whiff, it smells like a Montrachet. It has some sweetness like honey. It is quite powerful and concentrated, but it lacks acidity which makes it slightly flabby. It is a different style of Chardonnay than I am accustom.

Seppelt (Colin Preece) Sparkling Burgundy, 2x100yo Seppelt Paras and many more! (Sydney, Australia) : Bold nose of spice, honey, hazelnut and toast. Golden in colour. Great complexity on the nose, constantly changing aromas as it evolves over time in the glass. First corn, honey, citrus, spices and oak dominates, then crossing over to flowers, almond, vanilla, strawberry cream and butter . Lovely palate as well with a high, but rounded, acidity, full body with mature fruit, integrated oak and a very long, savoury finish. Everything is in balance here. A great Chardonnay in a great state of its life. The nose was …

End of the World Dinner (Nicolas Restaurant, Teck Lim Street, Singapore) : Nicely complex and integrated, this was the best bottle of the three I have tried. It still bore enough resemblance to the previous two for me to guess it as a 1995 Yattarna, but there was a bit more oomph to this, so that it did not seem out of place next to two absolutely mindblowing white Burgundies. We had another amazing nose here. This showed lots of …

Mid gold in colour. When initially opened (and straight from the fridge), wine was fresh, offering up grapefruit, white peach, minerals, and toast - all encased within a pretty decent structure. As it warmed up to room temperature, however, the wine started to lose fruit - over about 30-60 minutes. It also developed a cheesy character and looked a bit flabby. I've scored the wine at the half way point between the freshly opened bottle and the last glass.

2012 BMDP Charity Dinner and Extras (Meritus Mandarin / Giant Garoupa) : Second time round with this first vintage of Yattarna, and I thought it was quite a bit better than the last bottle we had. Cooling-Off Day, Pre-Show Dinner (The Cathay Restaurant) : The first ever vintage of Yattarna. I thought this was very good, though not quite great. It had a nice nose. Clearly Chardonnay, but also quite clearly new world. Although there was a nice waft of chalky, limestoney mineral, almost seashell at points, this was bolstered by sweet ripe lemon aromas, fleshy apples, and some tropical pineapple notes, along with a touch of flowers and honeysuckle at the edges. Pretty pleasant, but …

An outstanding Chard! This is day two and there is no loss of vibrancy on the palate or nose. No signs of age at all. Lemon curd and wet stones on the nose. This comes close to the Leeuwin Art Series in style. Lovely wine that will likely age for 10+ years.

Drunk from 750ml. Opened and poured after an hour of chilling. Color is decent, not too dark and no hint of brown. Nose was not good at all, definitely a little madeirisation and yeast. On the palate not quite such a disaster, with a thin spine of acidity keeping this wine on life support. Such mature, opulent Chardonnay notes but not much of a finish and not much of an attack either. This is probably 2-3 years past its drink …

What struck me was how hard this wine would be to judge at a tasting. Initial reaction was great nose but the palate came off a little flat. Over the course of the first glass and into the second the wine profile built up to be outstanding. I will give this one another year at least before opening the next bottle. Nice citrus flavors with good aciditiy. This one should last for many years

Less forward than the 2005, this currently reveals less evidence of new oak, instead offering the feel of a Pouilly-Fuisse with bright, snappy acidity framing green apple, lemon and toast flavors.

NobleRottersSydney - Penfolds prior to 2000 (Alio's, Surrey Hills) : [cork, 13.2%] Distinctly darker than it’s younger ['00 Bin 00A Chard] sibling (verging on gold in colour), this manages a much older-smelling nose of rockmelon and cream. The palate is the big disappointment, watery and bland, with soft nebulous white fruits. All that remains at the finish is a little oaken kick. Might be worth keeping one bottle to see what happens, but if you’ve still got a case you …

Golden, amber colour. On the nose it is quite heavy with tropical fruit but the oak is far from overwhelming. Not as heavy on the palate but shows more oak there. The character of this particular wine is not a typical Chardonnay (previous years have been) suggesting this one <ight be over the top. It actually has some traits of a Condrieu in my opinion. Nevertheless, a great wine and we're going to have it with veal w chanterelles.
