AR.PE.PE. Valtellina Superiore - Grumello Rocca de Piro Riserva

Classic mountain Nebbiolo. Light body, tannins still present upfront, cherries and that Nebbiolo earthiness. Really enjoyed it.

This bottle is very much the same as the 2020 dinner when we previously opened this. Operating at the top of its game even four years later.

Very light tertiary scents, pleasantly blended with cherry and burnt orange peel. The lovely orange peel sensation continues through mid-palate and merges with rose petal and crushed rock on the finish. A bit light in body. Less elegant, but similar to, the 2013 Grumello Buon Consiglio Reserva. This is a nice wine, and distinctive.

amazingly pretty and expressive in the glass, on the nose, and in the mouth. wow! in a perfect spot right now. I wouldn't want the fruit here to oxidize and the acid/tannin are already lovely and soft. notes below capture the fruit/taste profiles accurately only negative is the mouthfeel and finish. it's a bit too "juicy rustic"/alto-Pied right now. additional cellaring would be excellent for both but only IF the fruit/nose stay where they are.

By the bottle at Marta in NYC. Nose is classic mountain Nebbiolo: pure cherries, charred tobacco, a little floral lift. Palate is more red berries, dried cherries, mountain herbs, good tannins, fresh crunchy berry finish. Really lovely, and getting better with air. Total crowd-pleaser (even Tass likes it!) Might benefit from a decant, especially if you are going to drink it quick (i.e. split it between 4 people)

Wow. Cherries, lapsang, slightest hint of pine. Long finish.

Pale red with orange tint. Nose of violets, rose, cherry, tar and earth. Tastes of all the above plus cranberry, bitter orange and licorice. Light body, beautifully integrated, some faint tannin is detectable but very in background. This expression of Nebbiolo is all delicacy and finesse and, to my palate, wonderful. Glad I have more.

Wish I had more bottles of this. A beauty. Big floral nose, with some tar behind it. Palate is resolved, meaning the flavors have all come together to make a blend of cherry fruit, tar, earth and a bit of smoke, all singing together. Acidity is modest and cuts the fruit. A bit of tannin left, but I think this is really at its peak and should be had in the next year or two.

Le Nebbiolo ne ressort pas tellement ici à l'aveugle. Fait davantage toscan, mais avec un fruité minéral. Super texture. Belle fraîcheur. Pas un super Q/P par contre..
