40 years of age - Dark amber, some oxidation, acidity had kept it going - enjoyable and a learning

Another beautiful example from the 2001 vintage. The label of this wine showed a deceiving condition because a bottle had leaked on it and made this bottle looked possibly damaged. Luckily that was not the case. The color was deeply golden but the palate was actually quite fresh and lively. A tropical note of coconut greeted the nose initially and led into notes of quince paste, fig, fruit cake, and spiced pears. This is in an absolutely delicious spot where …

Dinner (Waldhotel Sonnora, Dreis, Germany) : Beautiful Auslese with a long future ahead. Very balanced, good racy acidity, not too sweet. Only 8% abv. Fine yellow fruit. Lacks a bit of vibrancy and tension to be really great, but it could handle the beautiful fruity dessert of the Sonnora pretty well. Long, fine and elegant finish. 92-93

Appearance: Bright and clear, it has medium lemon color, with watery rims and legs. Nose: Clean, with medium (-) intensity aromas of citrus fruit of lemon, stone fruit of peach, floral notes of linden, mineral notes of steely and beeswax, maturity notes of petrol and musk. The wine is developing. Palate: Medium sweetness with high acidity, the wine has low alcohol, medium body and medium (+) intensity flavors of citrus fruit of lemon, stone fruit of peach, mineral notes of …

HDH auction tasting at Tru; 12/10/2015-12/12/2015 (Chicago, IL) : Just way past its prime. Caramel, and really baked (and I don't mean that in a 420-kind of way).

Tasted a bit advanced for 2001, but none the less it was a lovely partner to a cheese course.

Medium gold. Odd nose - watery, saline. Dry and bitter - dried out and salty. Ugh Nose: 3/6, Palate: 3/6, Finish: - 3/6, Je Ne Sais Quoi: 0/2 = 9/20.

Similar to last bottle (half bottles). Very dairy-fudge bouquet. Perhaps a little better balanced. Some fresh lime there. Lacking depth. Off-dry. Forgettable.

WCC Triple Blind Whites (Saigon Spring Restaurant, Clifton Park, NY) : Dry and nasty. Some think it is too old, I think it is corked. Either way, it is bad.

Weingut Dr. H. Thanisch, Erben Muller-Burgraef (The Wine Summit at the Post Hotel in Lake Louise) : This was a superb vintage. Native yeasts; picked when the seeds were brown. Vines - 80 to 100 years - original root stalks; bottles recorded. I believe Barbara said the recording was done in 1970, but that covered only a short time; might have been later. Light straw color - remarkable for a wine of this age; typical "petrol-like" in the initial nose …

From half bottle. Young-looking. Offputting strong bouquet of lactose/milk. Evaporated milk mellowing out slightly to full-cream fudge. Unfortunately this characteristic overpowered the drinking experience. Not as sweet and deep as it should be. More like a Spatlese. Lacking acid. A great disappointment.

Straw yellow. Open and generous honeyed nose with tropical fruits, flower blossom, peach and lime juice aromas. Intensely concentrated with dense flavour and great weight, yet fresh and balanced with lovely precision. The palate is ripe and long with honey, red apple, apricot, baked figs, lime and a hot slate minerality. Superb.

Golden yellow. Saturated cork broke halfway through extraction. Opened 1.5 hours before drinking. Perfumed nose of lychees and flowers. Yellow fruits on palate, sweet but not cloying. No signs of oxidation. Good acidity, and a hint of savory (or a butyric acid note, depending on your interpretation).

Grosser Ring Tasting of 2007 wines from the Nahe, Mosel, Saar and Ruwer (German Embassy, London) : There's good minerality on the nose with a touch of sherbert and citrus. Well, on the palate, it's fine: well made, competent and clean. But it lacks interest.

German Riesling Offline (Counts Manor) : this is a good wine, but rather outmatched tonight. there is ton of good fruit, a good finish but the wine feels a bit disjointed at this stage. its more like a fatter spatlese than a real auslese in complexity. good but qpr factor suffers deeply
