Had at Keen's steakhouse in NYC with Liv and my parents for the birthday. A regal wine - bearing the 'x factor' of Meo, but in their village Fixin wine. Nose was sun drenched and dried strawberry and light red cherry, with lifted burgundy turned earth, violet, white truffle/vanilla pod and some baking spice. Finish confirms the nose with a long-lasting finish. Medium / low acid with tannins present, but integrated quite well after a 60-minute decant. This wine is …

Rhöne vibes. Very powerful, dark fruit. Maybe just too young. It was better after 5 hour decant.

Really well made regional burgundy. This should drink fine for the next 3 years, but probably doesn't get better from here. Forest floor, dark strawberry, and earth. This went really well with smoked pork ribs.

Last tasted January 2022. This keeps getting better and better. Really lovely. I suspect it will age beautifully so hands off the remaining bottles for a year or two. 2016 is a very rewarding vintage

This wine was a disappointment. At this price point, one is allowed to expect more. Quite muffled nose with cherry and some musty tones that were a sad excuse for sous bois added to the disappointment. Palate with similar notes. Finishes short. Drink up.

Light ruby with touches of garnet. Warm aromas of roses, dried cranberries, bouquet garni, toasted almonds. Fresh red berry fruit on the palate in a vibrant aromatic acid frame, a light crisp tannic bight, light body, long finish with lilting aromatics at the back. 13.0% alcohol.

Pale to medium garnet. Subtle complex aromas of dark berry, sourdough crust, dried flower infusion, a hint of tobacco, an element of brightness. Dark cherries on the palate in a strict acid frame, unusually firm tannins for a pinot, emerging aromatics in the long winding finish. Flashes of light and dark, mysterious, quite lovely with zucchini tomato gratin a la Elizabeth David.

Cv. Pale ruby. Roasted cherries, cola (almost coffee bean), earthy ashiness and a little gamey. Tightly wound, grippy tannins and concentrated. Drinking real nice

Light red. Vivid raspberry and game. Light weight but good concentration and palate impression. Very bright, tart cranberry fruit, some licorice, and good soil on the finish. Really good Fixin.

Good solid earthy pinot, a bit sharper than usual but a good "value" Meo and still pretty well balanced

Certainly more substance here than in the Bourgogne, and very Fixin. Plenty of stuffing, lots of ripe, smoky berry fruit and a touch of game, with brisk acids that make the whole package dynamic for all its brawn.

Nose of mild red fruit with lots of acid, finishing with a bit of earth. Pours a clear light red. Palate opens with cranberry and strong acid and closes with earth; the middle is quite mild. Tannins are extremely well integrated; mouthfeel is light. Earthy finish lasts an exceptionally long time. May have benefited from a decanting.

La Confrerie des Chevaliers du Tastevin (Vancouver) (Pied-á-Terre) : Darkest and ripest nose so far with beautiful notes of manure (yes, I said beautiful), dark cherries and raspberries and little bit of barnyard funk as well. In the mouth there’s plenty of depth and structure with sappy red fruits, excellent acidity and fine yet approachable tannins. Well balanced. I really liked this. Drinking well right now and will cruise for several years further. Excellent.

Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin (Pied-â-Terre Bistro - Vancouver, BC) : Super stinky on the nose with a blast of manure/outhouse up front, along with some red cherries, barn, kirsch, tar, and rich dark fruits. While still quite funky, the stank dissipates on the palate displaying some black pepper spice, red cherries, and some herbal notes. A nice underlying backbone of acidity balances well with the crisp yet rounded tannin. Medium length finish ending on notes of barn and red …

Aromas of rasberry, sour cherries and foest fruit. More ripe and darker fruit notes than the fresher '07. Lacking substance to go all the way, but a very decent wine nevertheless. Good freshness and food friendly, but very smooth tannins.

From the négoce arm of the house, which shouldn't make a huge difference since Méo oversees the process from vine treatment on. Color was a cloudy medium ruby red with no bricking. Some earthiness on the nose along with red fruits and a hint of spice. On the tongue it again shows young: red fruits, tart acidity with a lively play on the palate (Dawn says zip). Good balance and cleansing finish. Drinking well now (bring on the '02s?). No …

This has the unmistakable gamey and rustic notes I associate with Fixin, but I sense a hesitation on the part of the winemaker to embrace them fully. A 2002 Clos Marion Fixin I had recently was enthusiastically slummy, whereas here you get the sense the wine is trying to be something more elegant, and failing; most obviously, it falls over completely on the finish. Nevertheless it is still a quality and multilayered effort, but short of what it could have …

Medium ruby with a slight bricking at the edges. Floral, spicy nose with black fruits, sage and loamy earth. Full and rather fruit driven in the mouth with sweet black fruit and oak spice flavors dominating. Nicely balanced by harmonious acids. The oak peaks out again in the finish. This might be just a tad too extracted for its own good. Today this is rich and nicely balanced but I worry that too much further aging will leave this top …

Medium garnet. Nose has lost most of its primary fruit aromas and gone towards iron, leather and sous bois with underlying nuances of red currant jelly, violets and pepper. Elegant and precise in the mouth with mineral driven red fruit flavors and a touch of sweet wood. Tannins are present but fully ripe and the acidity is still fresh and lively. The currant flavor echos on a finish that shows just a trace of heat. Nice wine and starting to …
