Domaine Trapet Chapelle-Chambertin

Unfortunately the bottle to me was out of condition and only the top pour is satisfactory and the bottom pour is full of sediments. Interestingly, because the bottle have been left upright, the top part is clear with notes of mushroom, toast, dried red fruits. But bottom part is overly advanced with sour cherry, coming from the sediments.

Medium tawny in colour. Clear and not cloudy. Heavy sentiments. Pronounced nose intensity with notes of mushroom, truffle, black tea, toast. Medium acidity and medium- tannin. Medium bodied and long finish. The cork was loose and slip when I tried to open. The ullage was 3cm from capsule. Very enjoyable and the beauty of a very good wine maker.

Chapelle-Chambertin Dinner with the Lieu-dit Cru (The Bristol - Chicago IL) : Open just before serving, then tasted single blind in flight. Big fruit on start, less intense middle/ finish. Moderate depth and length, but very clean for a 1983, with no signs of rot. Better than another bottle tasted blind a year ago.

Another Saturday at Knightsbridge - mostly blind (Northbrook, IL) : Tasted double blind, popped and poured. I was easily able to identify this as from Burgundy, but thought it considerably older. I really enjoyed th aromatic start with some dried rose petal, remnants of black fruit and plenty of mushroom. Less exciting on palate. When told it was from the 1980s, I correctly identified it as 1983 given some hints of decay on the finish.

Full rich pink/red color. Lovely forward rich lithe red cherry fruit aroma. Singing - the best nose of the night! Surprisingly tight and tannic red fruit on the palate. This wine was drinking young (!) and opened up nicely with a little air. Nice. 92+ points (group #3 wine) 2/06
