Domaine Durand, Cornas, Confidence

Super nice right now. What a Cornas should be, plus this was at a fair price. Great right out of the bottle, and improved with decanting and air. All the right notes, all in balance. Intense, mature, dark fruit with oomph from the acid, just enough residual sweetness to balance the rest, tannins that have softened up, backed up gently by soft, vanilla oak. Significantly better than some previous vintages of this same wine. I'd be tickled to serve this …

perfect cornas, long finish, do not decant The wine looks ruby colored. The legs are medium. There is no sediment in the bottle.

Not stellar; certainly less than I expected. Still, enjoyable enough, just not anything noteworthy. Opened it two days in advance, no decant, and seems to be in a bit of a dumb phase. Would wait for next bottle.

Vinturied into a decanter and let sit for 90 minutes. Dark ruby-plum in colour. Nose of black raspberry paste, black currants, and some hints of smokey violets with a touch of red meat. Black berry fruits along with some black peppers, earthy licorice, and some fruitcake on the palate. There is alot going on in here. Medium bodied with a medium+ finish.
