Slow-oxed 4 h, decanted 20 min This came across as young and packed, almost dense. However, the structure is pure class, definitely high level wine making. The nose pushes on many buttons for me, the oak could be even more integrated, should have aerated quite a bit more. Ripe red and black cherry with savory five spice and some fairly firm tannins in the near background that moved further offstage with more air. This shows exactly what I hope/ expect from the best wines from the northern section of NSG that is so “Vosne adjacent.” Good now with possible further upside from here.

The nose was gorgeous from first pour. Strawberries, blueberries, violets, some earthy cinnamon and nutmeg. It vibrates between berries and flowers all night, more one, more the other. The palate more on the earthy cherry zone, a little darker, but with a bright finish. Silky but still a little tannin remained (untroublng with dinner). Very similar to my last bottle in 2019. Beautiful Chaignots nose which brings in some Vosne floral notes to compliment the rugged fruit and earthy notes although things are a bit less rugged. The ripeness has receded and the wine has become more subtle. There is still a fine core of structure but once that releases, this should be superb. Try again is 3 years or so.

Wine Dinner: Mugneret Gibourg Vertical (Zazie's, San Francisco) : Aromatic, a bit smoky and spicy, some tobacco; palate is medium bodied, a bit richer than other vintages, black cherry; finish is medium length. Really lovely, but doesn’t hold up to the 2010. 92-93 Held up well, continued to flesh out and was interesting with more concentration and uniqueness on the nose. Loved it, 93.

True to the tasting when this had just been bottled, this has lovely breed. It has quite a full nose with expressive fruit. The yields were small in 2012, and the wine shows good concentration, succulent and juicy fruit with a tasty zing to the finish.

Still very young. Nose and palate resemble each other with candied fruit and vr spice. The wine is a marriage between the NSG rusticity and VR elegance. For my palate, this is a bit modern and "candied". I hope it will develop more nuance and burgundian character with aging. This is still too young to access.

Chicago Wine Flock...Rich Tests Our Pinot Noir Chops (House of Nanda - Chicago IL) : Tasted single blind. Ripe throughout with both red and black cherry. Slightly sweet with good+ concentration and finesse. Subtle spice to start, more emerged after two hours in glass, at which point the wine also seemed more weighty. Clearly needs more time in the cellar.
