an outstanding bottle that required four hours to open up. Lots of earth and leather, well balanced. Fruit is diminished but still in harmony.

Perfect cork. Good, deep colour, browning at the edges. Good St. Estèphe typicity on the nose, with a reasonable amount of fruit and some notes of coal-tar. On the palate it's of medium weight and a bit austere, but there's quite a lot there and the finish was attractive. I bought a dozen of these on release, and drank most of them about ten years ago. They were OK but a bit clunky, so I was pleasantly surprised by this …

Recently got 8 bottles of this at an auction....drank 2 so far and i am very pleasently surprised. Not at all austere like some other BX I have been drinking from this vintage.....pop'n'pour, still enough fruit left to please the misses and enough secondary and tertiary stuff going on to keep me interested. This one is drinking great 20 years in.....

This has evolved into a real gem. Wonderful fruity nose and a complex focused finish. Fun and serious at the same time. Drinking beautifully.

Still drinking nicely. Tannins calmed down and fruit still barely there. Leather. Cedar.

Lovely dark ruby. Reticent on nose, mostly earthy black fruit. Dark black fruits, bit of black plum and earth and liquorice background, decent acidity and fair tannins. Not terribly long. Bit foursquare but much richer and fuller this bottle. Suspect it has finally grown into itself.

A decent price but still disappointing given the vintage. The nose was just horrific, all barnyard. In the mouth it was a little better with well integrated tannins but really nothing special. If you get it for a good price (ie under 30 usd it's OK) but not a wine to seek out

Agree it should be better given place and vintage but not a bad minor Bdx. Suspect it has grown into itself a bit.

Dark garnet, clear complexion. Slighty muted at first but opened up to reveal a faint hint of tobacco leaf and cassis. Nothing bad about the wine, but not terribly exciting either. A perfectly acceptable midweek wine.

Deep dark ruby. Bit reticent on the nose. Middle weight, middle length. Dark berry fruits. Something a bit tarry and earthy. Nothing wrong just not much to get excited about.

Nice '2004'bouquet (bit severe, but very cabernet), also a bit severe in the taste, but nice to drink.

Drank over two days and the wine improves considerably. Day two: The bouquet is a bit dusty with cassis, plum and earthy flavors. On the palate cassis, some sweet spices a touch of bell pepper, some chocolate, good acidity and pleasant tannin. The wine is mature now and offers really pleasant drinking after some air time. Will definitely still be ok in 2017.

As others have said this is a wine with bright fruit - A standard bordeaux, with nice nose of red berries, and a hint of minerals. Great food wine - wish I had more!

Medium bodied with flavors of bright fruit, pencil shavings and lively acidity. Paired well with ravioli in bolognese sauce, but was a bit lacking when drank on its own.

Decanted about an hour before tasting at a dinner party. The wine has some structure layering fig, plum, spice, oak and black cherry. A bit high on acidity with nice tannins.

In fact about the same as my previous notes. Not a bad wine, but overall a bit green with firm acidity and tannin which has softened a bit. Can last for several years more, but will never be really subtle.

A classic bordeaux, with nice nose of red berries, cedar, minerals. Palate does not the refinement or smoothness of others, but a solid refreshing food wine with strong red fruit profile. A bit thin and green, but finish is pleasant.

Black as well as red fruits. Firm acidity and tannin. Straight forward wine. A bit green. The tannin will soften a bit more with more ageing, but there is no real finesse.

Although there is nothing wrong with this, it did not represent the complexity and depth of a typical St. Estephe. Brilliant garnet color. Some light fruits on the palate. A bit thin in the mouth. Rather dry and a bit heavy on the tannins. Disappointing given the otherwise outstanding vintage.

Don't know what the negative fuss is all about. First Bordeaux, well this probably wasn't the right wine to taste. This wines vineyards are adjacent to Cos d'Estournel and has similar properties to the great CD. Hoever, it certainly is no match. Deep dark rich color to a slightly brick rim. Legs were somewhat light. Nose was filled with terroir, vanilla cream, mocha, espresso, white pepper, some leather, shoe polish, black berries and nice dark fruit. Pepper, dill, dark chocolate, …

I am a relatively new wine drinker and this was my first French Bordeaux. I must say this was a big dissapointment. I had recently been on a Cali Pinot noir/Cab binge and the lack of depth in this wine was stunning. The nose was floral but reserved and the wine appeared very thin in the glass. On first sip I had to really concentrate to even know when this thin wine was hitting my lips. I even wondered if …

No faults, just not up to snuff. Very "fall fair"; hay bales and cotton candy. I also found it a bit sweaty/animal. Green pepper, white tobacco, and cooked fruit- jam... to its credit, quite varietally typical. In the mouth it really fell apart, the wine was thin, tannins dry... mostly vegetal on the palate. Must agree with some of the other recent posts... "weak in the knees". No faults, but terrible value.

First day red fruits in the bouquet and taste and a lot of acidity on the palate. The second day the acidity was a little less overruling. It is a rustic wine with unripe raspberries, cherries and some cassis and still youthful tannin. Not really impressive, but certainly ok. Will probably soften a bit more over the next 4 - 5 years.

Pfft. A great vintage, a great location - this should have been so much better but it was underwhelming to the point that I threw most of it down the sink. Not because it was undrinkable but it was just so forgettable that I figured I could spend the next hour of my life drinking this and forgetting it, or I could drink something else. Soft, round, soapy fruit. Little structure to speak of, which is surprising for a 2000 …

Not as impressive as one should expect from a St. Estephe. The tannins are now on the background. You kan taste cherry hints of vanilla leather and wood though al in al it's a bit watery or thin. I drank one bottle accompanied with cheese and one bottle with a meal with roasted (wild) duckbreast. The duck lifted up the wine.

Fine ruby tones, adequately viscous, remarkable bouquet given its humble pedigree, plenty of fruit and delicately perfumed, pleasant mouthfeel, the remaining tannins suggesting still a few good years left as of 2009; fine wine altogether if not terribly complex.

(12.5% vol) Deep red colour with musk or other animalistic notes and cheese on the nose. There were also some underlying cherry and wood (close to pencil shavings) notes on the nose as well. 2 days later there was still an underdeveloped fruit core under the acidity and a peppery finish. It still seems like this wine was holding something back. I would personally wait a few more years to see how this fruit core develops. J-didn't like it (too …

Tour de Bordeaux; Next stop: St. Estèphe @ Roel's (Netherlands) : Ruby red, deep core. Fragrant, ester-like bouquet. Prunes, rosehips, orchids, olives, caramel-and-cream. Seems modern and extracted. A sip reveals kirsch, chocolate, sweet bell pepper, coffee, leather and bulky but ripe tannines. Good effort, still slightly reserved now. 17/20
