Wow. Really resolved the petrol notes into a gorgeous citrusy, mineral light bodied affair - it wears its sweetness so lightly. A real joy. How am I going to keep my hands off these so I can see how it tastes in ten years!

Schitzel and Riesling (Stein's, Exhibition Road) : Super light and clear. In contrast to the physical appearance this was rich on the palate, mid-sweet (not icky sweet), pineapple broom floral notes, petrol if you wanted it, and mild peach. I'm a lot more positive about this tonight than I was about my last bottle 2.5 years ago. This seems to have integrated and begun to enter its mature phase. It's really got the light weight, luscious mouthfeel, and full flavor that Prüm manages to achieve. There's a really pretty floral and quince perfume on the palate and finish. Cork bled through and stained label. Nonetheless, wine was sound. Delicious. Full-bodied, unctuous. Honey and citrus. Great staying power. If I had more, I'd drink them out of concern for the corks. Otherwise, this still has time.

The cork was compromised upon inspection, right after removing the foil top. Cork had obvious signs of wear, seepage but this isn't really surprising given that even a 2018 stored for a couple years had this issue, and a 2014 also. Extraction proved to be a two step process, where the cork crumbled quite easily half way if one didn't take the time and use the right tools initially. Light yellow-gold in color. A precise and airy aromas of yellow citrus and florals, herbs, apples and minerals. A light and lively palate showcases a perfect balance of acidity and sweet apple and peach fruits, salty minerality, and a long perfumed finish. Transparent, invigorating and delicious.

Berserker Offline (Mezze and More) : So very Prüm! Lacy, filagreed, juicy acid and orchard fruit, smoky mineral, and lovely persistence despite the lighter texture. Hints of pastry cream. Very focused, super classy and built like a ballet dancer. Lightly sweet and feels very kabinett, with no hard edges. I think G-H exceeds W-S in warmer years like this.

Note: I use the recommended scale, so 85 represents a very good wine. Just another stupid-good aged Riesling from my cellar. Cost $19 in 2010. Has aged perfectly. Don't know what more to say.

(AP 08 08) Herbs, flowers, apple, pear, spices, lots of minerals, nuts (hazelnuts? almonds?), ripe pineapple, grapefruit, apricot, lovely acidity, definite but delicate sweetness, an almost endless and exquisite aftertaste with distinct notes of mint and peaches as it fades. A lovely summer day in a bottle.

JJ Prum - 2020 range tasting : There is a distinct smoky tinge to this wine along with the ZS Spatlese, however there is more shown with slate, pear, apple, lime and white florals. It definitely has a step up in richness on the palate, the acidity is nicely cleansing, though I think might be better in a few years as the youthful sweetness has the edge taken off with time.

At a tasting with three JJ Prum Spaets. From memory, no detailed notes. Once again the ripeness of the vintage shows in all 3 Spaets (Bernkasteler Badstube, Graacher Himmelreich and Wehlener Sonnnenuhr) and once again the WS had the most ripeness. Right now the BB shows best, not as clear a winner as the Graacher Himmelreich is among the Kabinetts, but edges out the GH in the Spaets. The nose is initially effusive, with green fruit, herbs, and mineral, but that actually receded to more of a yellow fruit and cream profile with some time in the glass. Absolutely must have 60+ minutes of air. This was lovely, by far the most enjoyable 07 Prum I’ve opened. It will always be an 07, with some pastry cream and more orchard fruit than citrus. But while maybe a bit over generous, it’s true to the site and pretty well balanced, with a decent vein of acidity and some subtle earthiness behind the fruit. Just entering what id consider its ideal drinking window.

Alongside the WS. GH is juicer more grapey. Floral, aniseed, perfumed, delightful stuff. Effortless with a greater sense of sweetness than the WS.

The Prüm 2020s with Howard Ripley Wines (Zoom!) : Again the colour is extremely pale and there’s some spritz. Earthy, slaty nose, with plenty of lemon thyme. Seems more reticent than the GH Kab, but there are hints of additional opulence beneath the steely frame – perhaps some Turkish delight on the midpalate? Despite the sugar, this remains a racy, almost bitter wine, with plenty of refreshment on offer – really very drinkable.
