Andrew's Birthday Dinner 2025 : PnP. Very young, but integrated. Smooth and luxurious with a depth on the palate. Shows the warmer vintage with rounder dark fruits and layers. Just a baby.

Wow. Classic Rousseau Chambertin that was drinking great after 6 hours of slow ox. Remained strong across the night. What more could any burgundy drinker want? Some more secondary characteristics will raise the score further.

DC Wino did a nice job describing this wine. To me, it showed a glorious and voluptuous palate with plenty of emerging secondary flavor and a finish that had no end. You just want to hold this in your mouth and keep it there. Really terrific wine by one of the best producers in Burgundy, or anywhere for that matter.

Nick’s 2024 Birthday lunch at Con and Marie’s place (Wellington, NZ) : Served in a pair double blind with the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. A complex, detailed bouquet of brown spices, chalky minerals, black cherries, cassis, warm earth and rose and violet florals. On palate, obviously relatively young, yet beautifully integrated and balanced. I had the wine as a Vosne-Romanee Grand Cru – and did not find any overt Gevrey-Chambertin character – but, at this level, I find the village …

Very sexy and ripe with candied fruit, spice, vitamins and minerals. Great concentration but still primary as expected for an 09. It will most likely enter the beginning of its prime drinking window in 4-5 years.

A great friend's visit to DC (The Capital Grille at Tysons corner, VA) : Medium expressive nose displaying unbelievably concentrated black fruit with a hint of red, blackberry concentrate, raspberry, caramel, grilled cep, tea, rose, dark spices, tree bark and earth. Exceptional concentration, slightly coiled super concentrated black fruit rich, dense and deeply tone but also showing excellent balance and harmony, perfect amount of acidity, medium earthy mineral, and a long concentrated black fruit driven finish with rose at the …

Two friends sharing three bottles of wine - Palmetto Bluff (Hilton Head Island - Charlie's Coastal Bistro) : Youthful yet incredibly complex nose displaying super concentrated perfectly ripe black fruit, blackberry, blackberry concentrate, rose, lavender, espresso, cinnamon, liquid smoke, tea and mineral. Exceptional concentration, layers upon layers of perfectly ripe black fruit, rich and sweet but also showing perfect balance and detail, perfect amount of acidity, and mineral, and a seamless long concentrated black fruit driven floral finish with exotic …

94++ pts

Burgundy Bachelor Party : So dark, dense, and rich but with the epic precision that Rousseau Chambertin seems to demonstrate more consistently than any other wine. There's no crime in drinking it now, save for the fact this will clearly metamorphosize into something even greater with time.

Lovely but quite young. Even so, this showed better balance than 02 Beze today. Give this another decade and should be a showstopper.

Opened at Otto e Mezzo in Hong Kong. P&P, though we waited for it to open in the Zalto. This was better than my expectations, given how Rousseaus tend to need age to open up fully. This was incredibly fragrant and approachable, despite having clear backbone and a power that was lurking behind the scenes. Honestly, an incredible treat. Likely to improve with a bit more time - I'd say give this another 5 years to see how it develops, …

powerhouse of a vintage and still especially forceful even after a decade+. Just gobs of chunk intense dark fruit. Initially showed a fair touch of wood but after a couple hours of air it dissipated. Just memorizing how much is stuffed into the bottle, like a turkey about to burst open. Would have been far more accessible with a long decant but man that fruit starts to get like silk with that classic rousseau profile by the end of the …

Nose of alcohol and strawberries. Massive palate, at this stage simply no finesse. Blind, more akin to a Chateauneuf than a Burgundy. Just waaaay too big and clunky at this stage, it needs at least 10, preferably 20, years in a cool cellar. Score based on pedigree, as it wasn't at that 93 point level tonight.

This wine needed air. Initially it's a bit muted and clunky almost. Revisiting 2 hours in and the wine unfurls to show intense dark berry fruit, sous bois, the dense oak has mellowed and gained some sweetness. Balanced acidity, and overall it's a beauty.

Big Burg Energy : Served double blind. This really improved with air, but initially, it came of a bit coarse to me. Over time, it began to come together and have that seamlessness and elegance that I associate with Rousseau. Definitely served too young, but man, what a great wine. Wish I could have really focused on this bottle and internalized it more, but too many wines at the table, which is a really first world problem to fret about.

Beautiful nose of spice and raspberries. Still young but great potential. Drinkable now with a 3+ hour decant but clearly the best is yet to come.

2021 New Year's Celebration Tasting (Private Cellar) : PNP into Zalto Burgundy glass ("Fruit" day): Pale ruby to the eyes. Red fruit driven, soy sauce like notes. Liquorice. Vosne Romanee like sweet spice notes. Finely textured. 94-95 points. Reserved for observations. Second round, more and more open indeed on palate. Third round, nose started to open now, more cherry cola notes, but on palate still less generous. Fourth round, on nose really opened up, good finish.

The Triple Threat "165" Birthday Bash (65/60/40) (Minikahda Club, Mpls) : Medium ruby red color with a 5mm transitional margin. Same bottle as Chablis28; decanted as noted for an hour. Drank a glass over 90 minutes plus. Flighted with the '09 Charmes Chambertin which was quite impressive, this was in a class by itself. This is one of those wines I just sit there and keep mumbling wow, wow....Truly, this is a wow wine, one of those benchmark wines that …

Rousseau Dinner (WS New York) : What can I say? I love Rousseau Chambertin. Every bottle I come across, it is really a question of how good not is it good. The 09 is fantastic. Very drinkable and just chock full of all the Rousseau greatness.

Indulgence..... : WHOA! Absolutely brilliant. Such complexity and seductiveness: high tone, touch of whole cluster complexity, cinnamon, grilled meat, earth and loaded with clean, perfectly ripe fruits. Endless layer of sweet ripe fruits, bitter sweet cocoa, mouth staining minerality and umami perfectly balanced by the lively acidity. You can feel the depth and penetrating of flavours on first sip then asking for the 2nd, the 3rd. I especially like the touch of wood spice infused violet inner perfume here. Never …

Initially sexy as expected for an '09. Red cherry notes. Over time it tightened up vs. loosened up, and showed an iron/metal side. Overall very enjoyable, but somewhat less so than a recent 2009 Beze.
