Pulled from the original case and in perfect condition. A wow wine. Lovely minty nose (reminds me of Heitz Martha) with a super polished and silky palate. Gorgeous flavors and perfume. Drinking incredibly well right now.

Rather simple but still brings some joy. Lovely nose, dark berries, meat, black olive and som bacon. On the palette it has a nice viscosity but lacking something and quite short.

Roasted meat - violet nose. Not strong on the palate, rather a more elegant style of Cote Rotie. Missing a huge chunk of something on the aftertaste, but otherwise a well-structured and balanced wine.

Very rich, powerful and quite dark-toned nose with aromas of very ripe dark berries, some sweet chocolatey oak spice, a little bit of blackberry marmalade, a hint of succulent plummy fruit and a touch of toasty wood. Retail $80. It was snowing and we decided to lock the kids in the basement and head to the new BYO in our 'hood. It's a Northern Italian resto but I tend to bring French in those instances. Imposing, almost completely opaque black cherry color. Very rich, aromatic and almost sweet nose with aromas of blackcurrant, bramble and blackberry jam, some plummy fruit, a hint of meaty iron and a touch of tapenade. I have had a couple of these now, and each time I worry about the vintage (it was extremely hot in France) and every time I realize that I am being a complete moron--I have had several bottles and they all have been fantastic. This was no exception--good fruit and surprising acidity--this is drinking well now, but I should probably get to the remaining two bottles rather soon, I think (not a ton of tannin there). I was a little worried about these since anything from France in 2003 is a bit of a crap shoot given the heat that year. Well, at least with this bottle, there was no need to worry. Rhone Dinner ('96 and Older) (Aquitaine - Chicago, IL) : Very mature nose of rose petal, olives, bacon drippings, dried leather, and cherry. I really enjoyed the nose; it’s subtle tones and earthiness was very enjoyable. The palate was very tart and featured cranberry and cherry. General consensus was that this was basically dead on the palate, but regardless, I found the nose to be very elegant.

Aged Rhones with the bad boys (Bistro Champagne Lincoln Square Chitown) : refined nose of pepper,dark florals,herbs de,and cherries. Mouth was very light but it did show a nice elegantly aged quality as it was very soft and silky. Tobacco,cherries,some purple florals,and a bit of black pepper. Came across as kind of tired next to the others in this flight-I'm wondering if we should have had the older wines first?

Very enjoyable. Lighter in color and body than last bottle. The nose was also less giving. This was the worst looking bottle of the lot. Still sexy. Unlike the last bottle there was no barnyard but more herbs, a bit of allspice, olives, and a hint of spearmint and tar. the palate and finish is a touch weaker. Still, a very enjoyable mature northern rhone.

Casual dinner at Michael (WINNETKA IL) : OMG! Very dark color for age. A lot of barnyard, roses and lavender, fresh leather, herbs, bacon- the nose was strong, perfumed, and had a wow factor. The mid-palate gained in flavor as it sat in the glass. The finish was long, delicious with a wonderful cigar box flavor. This was a wow wine, and my wine of the night with tough competition. Hard to find any flaws.

Good cork. Sweet liquorice and red plums/ prunes on the nose. Full bodied. Warm mature fruit not balancing the dry tannin structure. Pretty short. Not bad, but not worth the money.

No score, I was too fatigued from beer to taste much at this point. Seemed to be a bit pruney, wasn't wowed.
