Domaine Cecile Tremblay, Bourgogne, La Fontaine

"Strawberry farts" (Chicago, IL) : Served double blind. Strawberry farts means this was clearly Tremblay (also playing the player a little bit). The reduction needs a good number of hours to blow off, but I do enjoy that crisp red fruit profile that this has. Still, that farty reduction note is a bit too much, which has always been the sticking point for me with Tremblay's wines.

I seriously thought this was outstanding for the appellation. Nice balance right now, not really stemmy, no reduction, just beautiful fruit. The wine is singing right now. Loved this.

Nice fruit but lacked persistence and amplitude

Swings well above its Bourgogne classification. Tight & restrained at first, this opened up beautifully once decanted over a 3hr dinner. Bright acidity, well structured, oak is at the early stages of becoming fully integrated. Clarity & concentration of fruit is at least 1er Cru level. Easily has another 10yrs+ ahead of it.

The cuvee that sees negociant grapes from Domaine de la Cras...still manages to punch above many grand cru bottlings from lesser producers. Reductive nose with some burgundy funk belies it's lowly designation of "bourgogne". There is absolutely nothing "bourgogne" about this. In the mouth, palate peaks in the mid palate, revealing just a slight jeweled red sweetness. Finish is a little bit on the shorter side. This cuvee is 25% whole cluster and sees 30% new oak so should last …

Even the humble Bourgogne from Cecile Tremblay had some proper oak treatment, spicy and fragrant wood toast. This 2017 is drinking well today, expressive crunchy red berries, juicy fresh fruits and oaky spices. A tad too heavy on the new oak treatment for my liking. (81/100)

Negocient grapes. Interestingly remind me of Rousseau and Claude Dugat. All dark fruit, brewed aromatics, violet, a little stem, some green, fine balance. Superb concentration, detailed and linear. With some air it turned more old school, undertoning the freshness for some really backward, deep and spicy palate. Second day more extracted and less showy aromas. 91-92

Quite reductive upon pop and pour. More expressive on the palate though still rather shy, but the underlying material is surely there. With 2 hours of air, violet, passionfruit, sweet blue fruits, mint and cloves evolved. Nice depth of sweet fruits, savouriness, touch of mint, dark chocolate with lots of spices and spring water tailing at the end. Stylish and pretty pure at the later stage, as there is trace of wood initially. Really good depth for a bourgogne, definitely …

Highly perfumed nose of aniseed, ripe red berries, purple flowers and soil. It is sweet and textured with good vibrancy and definition. There's tart red berry crunch to the finish and length is very good.
