Domaine Alain Michelot Bourgogne

Possibly the darkest, inky-black Burgundy I’ve ever encountered. Opened, slow-oxed for 8 hours. This wine seems an anomaly… feminine-masculine, austere yet generous, plush, velvety-textured. So darkly concentrated yet weightless, fine powdery tannins, savoury, toasted sesame on the nose gives way to sandalwood, but then brooding hidden depths concealed beneath. Saline palate, concentrated, sensual, savoury. What will it taste like in 10 years time? I certainly won’t still have any left.

Drunk over 5 hours this was essentially completely shut down compared to the last bottle. Patience required.

Possibly the most saturated purple-black red wine I’ve ever seen, let alone Pinot… Unique nose, highly floral, lillies, roses, sandalwood, stony minerals, but altogether subtle, like a waft of scented candle from another room. The palate again is concentrated, saturated, intense, yet weightless, kaleidoscopic red fruits, mineralite, spice, velvety tannins recede with air, a beautiful, plush, feminine wine.
