Montsecano, Refugio Pinot Noir, Casablanca Valley

A little funky. Very earthy and leathery. Storing cranberry notes.

Almost translucent. A pinot nose - mature. This doesn't taste like pinot noir, disappointing.

Must buy again! 8/10

Recognisably Pinot, but perhaps not recognisably new-world. That had a few fooled as it was an options wine for lunch. It is clean and primary but there is considerable earthiness and texture on the palate. Quite a complex and individual feeling wine with an aroma profile that is very herbal, very brooding and is almost like formic-acid, which I've seen on a couple of new world Pinots but never with this much pronunciation and expression. Very tasty and moreish.

Au nez, fruits rouges (cerises, framboises), épices (poivre), fleur mauve et un peu de terre sablonneuse. En bouche, une véritable explosion de fruit ! Saveurs de cerises, de fraises poivrées, d’épices, impression de minéralité et la fleur revient. Une pointe de fumée sera perceptible en finale.
