15% alcohol. Cork of average length but dense; no wine penetration. Fairy deep colour with no sign of ageing. The nose is pleasant but somewhat muted, with very ripe dark fruit and some reductive aromas. The mouth is not really distinguished, with the alcohol protruding a little bit too much over generally bland flavours; a bitter note in the finish does not help. At this stage in my life, high alcohol wines have to earn their right to a space …

Inky purple. Dense nose of ripe blueberries, raspberries, pepper, clove and tinges of horse hide. Lovely complexity. Palate has a sweet ripe core with fine but firm tannin and pert acidity. Med-to-full bodied; lovely southern Rhone expression.

Great wine and a terrific $20 value. Extremely fragrant, ripe, spicy, herbal, expressive. Garrigue-plus. Good length, some acidity. Drinking well from first pour. I’d buy this all day long.

This bottle disappeared in a hurry—the 2010 Santa Duc Les Aubes is a strapping blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah. Blackberry compote, black olives, smoldering embers, venison terrine, and cracked black pepper form the stratified layers of the nose. Full-bodied, earth and underbrush wash over the palate just before a vein of acidity surfaces against a backdrop of tightly wound, grippy tannins. It terminates in a plume of cedar and Garrigue. 15.0% ABV

15% alcohol on the label, yikes! Cork of medium length and good density with no wine penetration. Medium to dark colour with no sign of ageing. The nose is expressive, with fresh ripe wild berries. The mouth is very satisfying, with some liquorice added and excellent balancing acidity. Surprisingly, the alcohol level does not call attention to itself (except through its mood enhancing effect), which can only mean that there is considerable stuffing to this wine. A success in the …

The back label shows a hefty 15% alcohol level, but I would not have guessed so. Sure, the wine is hefty and bold, but it does not come across as unbalanced (unlike the recently tasted Gigondas Pallières of the same vintage). Some reduction both on the nose and the palate, followed by ripe, but not cooked dark fruit. A satisfyingly rich finish, and a perfect companion to our meal of steak, mushroom and chips.

Very full-bodied and tannic, warm and broad, but balanced, a very old school "solid" feeling.

Medium deep purple red w aging - warm berry compote nose, licorice, a hint of saddle leather - nice, smooth, v g acid, it is a warm wine, best for a rainy evening, but the alc does not push thru - warm, fulfilling, nicely balanced, good powdery tannins, good length - nice. Now to 2020.

Outstanding. Would make a great steak wine. Well structured with strong fruit but very well balanced and sweet tannins.

A very good wine. Buy again on sale. Nice Bouquet and taste of Rhone - heavy wine. Aftertaste something like Chateneauf de pape with taste of plums like Grenache - a nice blend of Grenache and Syrah - enjoy it!

la bouteille n'était pas aussi problématique que la précédente, mais le vin n'est pas génial : chaleur alcoolique, pas de finesse, ce vin est raté... Une déception

Une acidité qui empêche de boire le vin. Défaut majeur sur cette bouteille.

Fertilizer, garrigue, wet pepper, sock, light funk; soft entry, stewed fruit and plum, good chewy tannins, tart acidity, medium body. Solid. Need to change label though.
